Job Description

Under the direction of the Hospital Administrator, the Patient Care Manager oversees Patient Care staff across the General Practice, Critical Care, and ICU departments. This position is responsible for clinical staffing, workflow, team performance, and the efficient delivery of high-quality patient care. The Patient Care Manager supports and maximizes the veterinary medical team's productivity while promoting teamwork, accountability, and effective communication with staff, clients, and referring veterinarians.

Essential Functions

- Supervise and support patient care staff across day shift operations.
- Develop and adjust staffing schedules to meet hospital needs, patient volume, and caseload demands.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, training, and ongoing support to LVTs and VAs.
- Conduct performance evaluations, monitor staff development, and address personnel matters as needed.
- Ensure consistent adherence to patient care standards, hospital policies, and clinical protocols.
- Conduct disciplinary discussions or processes as needed, in accordance with the hospital policies and procedures.  
- Promote effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving across departments.
- Assist in the resolution of client concerns and service recovery in collaboration with hospital leadership and Client Services.
- Participate in the interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of Patient Care staff.
- Review and approve timecards, manage time-off requests, and ensure appropriate staffing coverage.
- Lead and participate in departmental meetings to communicate operational updates, patient care priorities, and staff needs.
- Provide hands-on clinical support during periods of high patient volume or staffing needs, including LVT-level duties and procedures.
- Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with staff, hospital leadership, veterinarians, and referring practices.
- Monitor departmental workflow and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality of patient care.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Hospital Administrator.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

- Licensed Veterinary Technician in New York State ( Required )
- Minimum of 2 years in a veterinary management or supervisory role ( Required )
- Previous experience in a fast-paced, multi-department veterinary hospital preferred.
- Demonstrates ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop clinical support teams.
- Experience with EzyVet, SmartFlow, or other veterinary management software.

- Proficiency with veterinary practice management and workflow systems.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $35 - $38/hr. depending on level of experience
