POSITION SUMMARY: Dr. Shepherd, Total Joint Replacement Surgeon, is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or APRN provides advanced clinical care under the supervision of a licensed physician. This role includes diagnosing and treating patients, performing procedures, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and assisting in surgery. The mid-level provider works collaboratively with physicians, medical assistants, and other clinical staff to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations.
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions in collaboration with supervising physician.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic imaging, laboratory studies, and other tests.
- Prescribe medications, therapies, and medical equipment as appropriate.
- Perform in-office procedures such as joint injections, aspirations, wound closure, and splint/cast application or removal.
- First assist in surgical procedures as required.
- Develop and implement patient treatment plans, including pre- and post-operative care.
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, post-procedure care, and preventive health measures.
- Document patient encounters, orders, and care plans in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Collaborate with medical assistants and support staff to ensure efficient clinic flow and continuity of care.
- Complete disability, FMLA, worker’s compensation, and other required forms in a timely manner.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and compliance with clinical protocols.
- Provide coverage and support to supervising physicians as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervising physician.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nursing from an accredited program.
- Licensure in the state of Kansas.
- Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or the AANP or other certification entity.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification.
- Prior orthopedic or surgical experience preferred but not required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position operates in a clinical setting and involves direct patient care. The role may require exposure to bodily fluids, biohazardous materials, and infectious diseases. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required as appropriate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds independently and 100 pounds with assistance. Manual dexterity, visual acuity, and hearing ability are essential to perform job functions.
