Job Title: Site Supervisor Job Description
Join a dynamic and employee-focused commercial construction and facilities organization that is expanding its operations throughout the Midwest. We are seeking Site Supervisors to lead commercial fit-out and renovation projects, ensuring quality and customer satisfaction. As a Site Supervisor, you will be instrumental in executing projects while maintaining responsive communication with project managers and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day field execution of commercial renovation and fit-out projects.
- Serve as the primary company representative at the project site.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and material deliveries.
- Manage one active project at a time, with the possibility of overseeing two smaller sites.
- Monitor project schedules, Gantt charts, milestones, and key performance indicators.
- Confirm subcontractors complete work according to schedule and quality expectations.
- Perform quality-control inspections across multiple trades.
- Review drawings, plans, specifications, and project requirements.
- Verify completed installations and identify deficient work.
- Communicate field progress, delays, risks, and changing conditions to the Project Manager.
- Maintain project photos, daily documentation, and progress updates.
- Help resolve field issues before they affect the schedule.
- Coordinate site access, material availability, and daily work sequencing.
- Provide approximately two-week schedule look-aheads when applicable.
- Support overnight construction activities when required by the customer or project.
- Complete customer-facing turnover and handoff activities before a store or restaurant reopens.
- Communicate professionally with store managers, restaurant managers, facility representatives, and other customer contacts.
- Maintain company safety and quality standards.
- Ensure the site is ready for customer operations following construction.
- Occasionally assist with minor hands-on tasks or help subcontractors overcome an immediate field obstacle.
- Pick up missing project materials when required using the company purchasing process.
- Operate company vehicles safely and comply with company driving requirements.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial/retail construction as a Site Supervisor, Working Foreman, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, or similar field-leadership position.
- Ability to coordinate multiple subcontractor trades rather than manage only one specialized trade.
- Ability to report through the Portage office/warehouse and live within 1 hour.
- Willingness to work night shifts and occasional weekends as required.
- Ability to work approximately 40 to 50 hours per week based on project needs.
- Valid driver's license and approvable driving record.
- Ability to read construction plans and understand field sequencing.
- Experience tracking subcontractor performance and project schedules.
- Strong quality-control mindset.
- Comfortable serving as the on-site customer-facing representative.
- Ability to communicate clearly with Project Managers, subcontractors, customers, and facility personnel.
- Stable employment history or a reasonable explanation for shorter contract assignments.
- Ability to operate independently without constant oversight.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with repeat retail or restaurant renovation programs.
- Experience performing overnight remodels in operational facilities.
- Previous Working Foreman experience.
- Experience with commercial GC.
- Experience with Starbucks, restaurant, mall, retail, or similar commercial programs.
- Experience completing customer turnover before a business reopens.
- Willingness to travel outside Indiana and Illinois for occasional national assignments.
- OSHA certification.
- Experience overseeing several commercial trades.
- Experience with facility-maintenance projects.
- Experience working with repeat subcontractor teams.
Work Environment
The work environment generally involves a five-day workweek, with a requirement to work approximately 40 to 50 hours per week depending on project needs. Occasional weekend work may be necessary. The company's payroll workweek runs from Saturday through Friday, and payroll is processed weekly. Projects typically last four to thirteen weeks, and Site Supervisors usually oversee one project, with two projects being the likely maximum. Work is primarily located within approximately 1.5 to 2 hours of Portage, with Chicagoland being a significant current need. Out-of-state travel is optional and viewed favorably but is not a requirement. The candidate should expect to report through the Portage office and warehouse. Once materials and the project are established, direct reporting to the job site may be permitted when logistically reasonable.
