Our growing South Area team is seeking a motivated, talented Staff Scientist II for our Environmental Assessment and Remediation (EAR) practice .
Our South Area EAR practice focuses on site assessment/remedial investigations and design, environmental regulatory compliance and support, feasibility studies, emerging contaminants, and property transaction due diligence for clients in industrial, power, water, and government end markets. The Staff Scientist II will collaborate with diverse project teams of engineers and environmental professionals to execute and deliver solutions to complex environmental challenges for clients throughout the South Area and across the greater Verdantas footprint.
What You'll Do:
- Understand, protect, and promote our empathetic, people-focused culture in all aspects of the business
- Work in a combination of office and outdoor environments. When in an outdoor environment, the employee is subject to walking distances on uneven terrain while wearing personal protective equipment, including but not limited to work boots with safety toes, high-visibility safety vests, long pants, long-sleeve shirts, and hard hats, along with exposure to varying weather conditions typical of Florida and limited heavy lifting
- Outdoor work may require overnight travel, weekend work, out-of-town assignments, early morning starts (before 7:00 a.m.), and/or late departures (after 6:00 p.m.) in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Report to the office when not performing field work
- Perform field tasks and maintain field notes as assigned by project managers and senior technical staff
- Conduct drilling oversight and logging of soil borings, monitoring wells, and soil vapor points
- Collect groundwater, soil, sediment, air, and surface water samples for laboratory analysis according to regulatory and company standard operating procedures
- Enter collected data into report format using applicable software and company formatting guidelines
- Assist in preparing regulatory submittals, such as permit applications and work plans
- Prepare technical reports documenting project findings, conclusions, and recommendations
- Operate and maintain remediation systems
- Troubleshoot equipment issues associated with remediation systems, including groundwater and soil screening equipment before and/or during field work events
- Operate a variety of field vehicles, from SUVs to full-size trucks, including towing, following completion of required Verdantas training
- Prepare project-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs)
- Prepare maps and other illustrations for data interpretation and presentation
- Maintain Excel databases associated with regulatory compliance activities
- Apply basic knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and programs
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Strong problem-solving skills and a positive, can-do attitude
- Flexibility and self-motivation, including a willingness to learn new skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, regulators, contractors, property owners, and project team members
- Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and programs
- Experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS Pro, and other mapping software is a plus, but not required
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus, but not required
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for access to Department of Defense (DoD) facilities
- Access to a cell phone with internet connectivity
Salary Range:
