About this role
As part of the Fleet Operations, Reliability and Central Engineering (FORCE) team at Meta, the Data Center Technician Intern works alongside our technicians and engineers to support the health and reliability of Meta's global server fleet. This is a hands-on role in a live data center environment where interns learn by doing real work on real hardware, under close supervision and with structured mentorship.
The internship is a 12-week program designed for students who want to apply their coursework in a production environment at scale. Meta operates one of the largest server fleets in the world, which means the problems you work on, and the volume you see, are not something a classroom or a typical IT support role can replicate. A working familiarity with Linux, a basic understanding of server hardware, and an interest in networking fundamentals are central to this role.
Interns follow the same learning path as our full-time technicians, building proficiency in data center fundamentals, procedure execution, and hardware troubleshooting, with exposure to the diagnostic and systemic process work performed by our Production Operations engineering teams. You will have the chance to connect what you are learning in the data hall to the systems concepts behind it, and to contribute to the documentation our global teams rely on. You will work in a fast-paced environment where adaptability, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset are key to success.
Summer 2027 Program Dates: June 7 – August 27, 2027 (12 weeks)
Responsibilities
Work within Meta's ticketing system in support of the health of Meta's server fleet, responding promptly to assigned tickets.
Follow documented procedures (MOPs) to support server hardware replacements, network hardware reseats and swaps, and repairs.
Perform routine physical inspections of server and network hardware in data halls, including cabling, serial number, and power verification.
Perform physical cabling tasks, including fiber and copper connections, optic (transceiver) reseats and swaps, and cable cleaning, as directed.
Assist with ticket resolution by gathering requested information, conducting initial triage on hardware and Linux OS related issues with guidance, and communicating clearly with the team to escalate issues outside your scope or expertise.
Assist with projects, including new capacity and retrofits, and repairs throughout the data center.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, help create and improve documentation for the global data center knowledge base, and accurately pull and manage inventory (optics, cables, server spares) according to established processes.
Operate hand and power tools (such as drills, screwdrivers, safety cutters, and lifts) safely and in accordance with site safety and security protocols, to support installation and maintenance tasks.
