Lead the Indirect Procurement and Procurement Support functions for RWE Americas, providing strategic and operational leadership across indirect category management, sourcing, contracting, supplier management, procurement systems, processes, analytics, governance, and compliance. The Director, Indirect Procurement & Procurement Support leads managers and senior managers, partners with senior business stakeholders to translate growth plans into procurement strategies and organizational capabilities, and drives scalable, efficient, and compliant procurement practices that support RWE Americas' onshore wind, solar, battery storage, and broader business activities.
Role Responsibilities:
- Lead the Indirect Procurement function for RWE Americas, setting strategy, priorities, organizational structure, and resource plans while leading and developing managers and senior managers responsible for sourcing, tendering, negotiation, and contract execution
- Develop and execute enterprise-wide category strategies for strategic indirect spend, including IT, consulting and professional services, facility management, and early-stage development services such as feasibility studies, expert opinions, and legal and regulatory support
- Partner with senior leadership and business functions to understand demand, challenge requirements where appropriate, consolidate spend, and translate business growth plans into forward-looking sourcing and contracting strategies
- Drive competitive sourcing and negotiations for high-value and complex requirements, using market intelligence, demand aggregation, total-cost-of-ownership analysis, and supplier competition to improve commercial outcomes while protecting schedule, quality, and risk objectives
- Establish and strengthen strategic supplier relationship management programs that improve performance, reliability, innovation, cost efficiency, and long-term value creation; lead escalation and resolution of significant supplier or contractual issues
- Approve significant procurement commitments within delegated authority and ensure sourcing and contracting decisions comply with RWE governance, policies, procedures, risk requirements, and approval frameworks
- Lead Procurement Support, including procurement systems, processes, statements of procedure, analytics, reporting, compliance, and data governance, ensuring the function has scalable tools and standards to support continued business growth
- Optimize the end-to-end sourcing-to-payment (S2P) process by identifying process gaps, simplifying workflows, standardizing ways of working, and leveraging technology, automation, and advanced analytics to improve efficiency and user experience
- Define, monitor, and communicate procurement KPIs and management information covering process efficiency, compliance, supplier performance, savings/value delivery, total cost of ownership, and supply or contractual risk; use data to identify and drive corrective actions
- Represent Procurement in strategic planning, transformation, and cross-functional initiatives, ensuring procurement requirements and market considerations are incorporated early into business decisions and development activities
- Coordinate closely with Central RWE Indirect Procurement, Project Development, Finance, Legal, IT, Operations, and other functions to capture Group-wide synergies, align category strategies, and maintain consistent procurement standards
- Lead change management and capability-building initiatives across Procurement, embedding category management, strategic sourcing, contract management, supplier management, and digital procurement best practices
- Develop team capability through clear objectives, coaching, succession planning, performance management, and targeted development opportunities, creating a high-performing and collaborative procurement organization
- Build external market networks and strategic partnerships that provide insight into supplier markets, emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and innovative commercial models relevant to RWE's growth strategy
Job Requirements and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required; degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, Business Management, Finance, or a related field preferred. Advanced degree or relevant professional procurement/supply chain certification is a plus
- Minimum 11 years of relevant procurement experience, with substantial experience in indirect procurement/category management and at least 5 years leading teams and/or functions
- Experience leading managers or senior managers, managing complex enterprise sourcing programs, and partnering with executive stakeholders is strongly preferred
- Renewable energy, power, infrastructure, construction, or another capital-intensive industry experience is preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in indirect procurement, strategic sourcing, category management, supplier relationship management, contract management, procure-to-pay, eSourcing, supplier risk management, and vendor management
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation capability, including experience resolving complex contractual and supplier issues with significant financial, operational, or reputational impact
- Ability to integrate procurement strategy into broader business planning and transformation initiatives and to translate business demand into actionable sourcing, organizational, and capability plans
- Strong executive presence and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively, and build alignment across senior leaders and cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated people leadership, including organization design, resource planning, coaching, performance management, talent development, and leading through change
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret spend, supplier, process, and market data and convert insights into decisions and measurable actions
- Experience designing and improving procurement processes, governance, controls, KPIs, and operating models, with a strong focus on simplification, standardization, compliance, and continuous improvement
- Digital mindset with experience using procurement technology, analytics, and automation to improve sourcing-to-payment effectiveness; strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and working knowledge of SAP or comparable ERP/procurement platforms
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-changing, international, matrixed environment, balancing strategic priorities with a pragmatic, hands-on approach to execution
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex commercial topics clearly to senior stakeholders
- High degree of integrity, sound judgment, accountability, and commitment to inclusive leadership and supplier practices
- Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally as business needs require
Work Environment:
This position is primarily office-based, with periodic travel to other RWEA offices, supplier locations, project sites, and business meetings in the United States and internationally. The employee must be able to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods as required.

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois or New York is $175,000 - $205,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
