Join our community of mission-driven creatives, communicators, strategists, and technologists to challenge the status quo.
The Team
You'll work as part of a cross-functional team of frontend and full-stack engineers, user experience designers and researchers, solution architects, quality assurance specialists, accessibility experts, business analysts, product managers, data analysts, security specialists, and behavioral health subject matter experts. We partner with federal stakeholders to operate and modernize a mission-critical data collection and performance reporting platform used by grantees and program staff.
The Work
In this individual contributor role, you will build responsive, accessible, and maintainable interfaces for complex data collection and reporting workflows. You will translate user experience designs into production-ready components, connect interfaces to .NET services and REST APIs, implement client-side validation and workflow behavior, and write automated tests that support dependable releases.
A key part of the work is improving the usability and consistency of an active federal application while it continues to serve current users. You will help modernize legacy interfaces incrementally, strengthen the component and design system, improve performance and accessibility, and collaborate closely with backend engineers, designers, testers, product teams, and users.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain responsive web interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript, and a modern component-based framework or library.
- Translate user experience designs, prototypes, and acceptance criteria into reusable, accessible, and production-ready components.
- Build complex forms, client-side validation, data tables, workflow interactions, notifications, and reporting interfaces for data-intensive applications.
- Integrate frontend applications with REST APIs, authentication services, analytics, and backend capabilities implemented in .NET.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests for user interface behavior and critical workflows.
- Apply semantic HTML, keyboard support, screen-reader compatibility, color and focus requirements, Section 508, and WCAG standards throughout development.
- Improve frontend performance, browser compatibility, error handling, usability, and maintainability through measurement and iterative refinement.
- Participate in Agile planning, estimation, code reviews, demonstrations, release activities, and user acceptance testing support.
- Collaborate with design, accessibility, backend engineering, quality assurance, security, product, and client stakeholders.
- Maintain documentation for components, interaction patterns, build tooling, testing, and frontend development standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, design technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years developing and supporting resilient, well-tested web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript or TypeScript, including browser debugging.
- 2+ years integrating REST APIs and JSON, with working knowledge of HTTP and HTTPS/TLS.
- 2+ years using React, Angular, Vue, or a comparable framework to build responsive layouts, reusable components, and complex forms with conditional behavior, client-side validation, and error handling.
- 1+ year applying accessible development practices, including semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, and focus management, with working knowledge of Section 508 or WCAG requirements.
- 1+ year writing automated frontend unit tests, with exposure to integration and end-to-end testing, and using package managers, build tools, and Git-based workflows, including pull requests and code reviews.
- Authorization to work in the United States, ability to perform all work within the United States, and ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Public Trust determination and complete required background screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the U.S. Web Design System or another mature design system, including extending accessible, reusable components.
- Experience incrementally modernizing legacy interfaces within .NET, ASP.NET MVC, or Razor-based applications.
- Experience building data-intensive interfaces, such as configurable data-entry workflows, complex data tables, dashboards, or reporting tools.
- Experience integrating interfaces with federated identity, single sign-on, multifactor authentication, or role-based access.
- Experience improving frontend performance and reliability through monitoring, analytics, error tracking, browser compatibility testing, and automated deployment pipelines.
- Experience supporting federal or public health applications, including familiarity with secure cloud environments, federal security and privacy requirements, or sensitive data handling.
