POSITION: Funeral Services Education Instructor
LOCATION: Clarkesville, GA
DESCRIPTION: The Funeral Service Education Instructor will provide quality instruction and support for the Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Service Education program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, student success, and continuous program improvement while supporting the mission and values of North Georgia Technical College and the Technical College System of Georgia. The instructor will provide classroom, laboratory, clinical, and online instruction in Funeral Service Education courses and participate in all aspects of program development, assessment, recruitment, accreditation, and student advising. Major duties include:
- Prepare and deliver engaging instruction in accordance with approved curriculum standards, course competencies, and Student Learning Outcomes
- Develop, revise, and maintain course syllabi utilizing approve NGTC templates
- Design and maintain Blackboard Ultra course content that supports face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction
- Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies and educational technologies that promote student engagement and achievement
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, examinations, laboratory competencies, simulations, clinical evaluations, and other assessment methods
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records in accordance with college policies and deadlines
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that supports student success
- Supervise embalming laboratories, restorative art laboratories, and funeral directing instructional activities
- Ensure safe laboratory practices and compliance with OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, Formaldehyde Standard, Hazard Communication requirements, and all applicable health and safety regulations
- Coordinate and evaluate student clinical experiences with affiliated funeral homes, cemeteries, crematories, and other approved clinical partners
- Monitor student competency and completion of required clinical experiences in accordance with ABFSE accreditation standards
- Participate in curriculum development and continuous program evaluation
- Assist with assessment of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes
- Participate in accreditation activities, including preparation of reports, collection of assessment data, and compliance with American Board of Funeral Service Education standards
- Assist with development and maintenance of program policies, student handbooks, laboratory manuals, and clinical documentation
- Recommend instructional equipment, laboratory supplies, software, and educational resources
- Assist with annual budget planning and inventory management
- Advise current and prospective students regarding admissions, academic planning, graduation requirements, licensure pathways, and career opportunities
- Participate in student recruitment, orientation, retention, graduation, and placement initiatives
- Serve as a faculty mentor and provide academic support to students throughout the program
- Serve on college committees and participate in institutional initiatives
- Attend faculty meetings, advisory committee meetings, commencement ceremonies, professional development activities, and college events
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with funeral homes, cemeteries, crematories, healthcare organizations, and professional associations
- Maintain professional licensure and actively participate in continuing education
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Completion of an American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) accredited Funeral Service Education program
- Current, active, and unencumbered Georgia Funer Director and Embalmer licenses or eligibility of Georgia licensure prior to employment
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in funeral service
- Demonstrated knowledge of embalming, restorative art, funeral directing, funeral service law, ethics, grief support, and contemporary funeral service practices
- Strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills
- Proficiency with instructional technology and Learning Management Systems
- Commitment to student success, diversity, professionalism, and ethical practice
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree in Funeral Service, Mortuary Science, Biology, Microbiology, Pathology, Psychology, Sociology, Business Administration, Education, or a related field
- Previous teaching experience at the college level
- Experience teaching online and hybrid courses
- Experience with competency-based education and laboratory instruction
- Experience with curriculum development and assessment
- Experience with ABFSE accreditation standards and self-study preparation
- Experience supervising clinical education
- Certification as a Crematory Operator or additional professional certifications related to funeral service
- Experience using Blackboard Ultra, Banner, Microsoft Office, and other instructional technologies

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned
