Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary:

The Mid to Senior Level Mechanical Engineer serves to provide technical leadership for the creation of construction documents, existing system studies and master planning efforts. Qualified candidates will meet with clients, project teams, code officials, contractors, and others to address mechanical issues to develop effective working relationships. The project clientele includes healthcare, higher education, mission critical, and commercial facilities with system types ranging from smaller decentralized systems to 5,000+ ton central utility plants.

The ideal candidate is a technically strong mechanical engineer who enjoys solving complex HVAC challenges and leading solutions from concept through construction. This individual will guide system selection and conceptual design, including centralized, decentralized, conventional, electrified, and energy-efficient systems. They will apply strong engineering fundamentals to new or unique applications, provide technical mentorship, and perform detailed QA/QC reviews to promote consistent, high-quality designs.

In this role, you will:

- Lead HVAC system concepts, evaluations, selections, and designs based on project requirements, client needs, energy efficiency, life-cycle cost, constructability, maintainability, resiliency, and carbon impacts.

- Develop technically sound solutions for complex mechanical systems, including central plants, decentralized systems, electrification, and decarbonization strategies.

- Translate complex engineering concepts into clear recommendations and actionable decisions for non-engineers.

- Perform and review load and energy calculations using software such as TRACE 3D Plus and IES.

- Apply engineering fundamentals, codes, standards, and design guidelines to new and existing facilities.

- Mentor engineers and designers on calculations, equipment selection, system design, and documentation to influence their growth.

- QA/QC reviews of calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical deliverables.

- Develop engineering reports, system studies, narratives, and project specifications.

- Independently develop sound controls diagrams and sequences of operations for unique system types, arrangements, or applications.

- Conduct building surveys, document existing HVAC system, conditions, age, and recommend prioritization of upgrades.

- Support construction administration and resolve technical issues during construction.

- Support the continued improvement of design processes, quality, client satisfaction, and relationships.

Minimum Requirements:

- You have a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering

- You possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license

- You have 5 to 15 years of design experience

- You have a strong technical knowledge in the design of HVAC systems

- You have detailed knowledge and understanding of codes, standards, and design guidelines

- You have a passion for technical excellence and a desire to help shape internal technical tools and processes

- You have an excellent work ethic and attitude

Potential Differentiators:

- You have an LEED or similar sustainable design certification / experience

- You have experience as a project manager leading a multi-discipline design team

- Past experience specific to healthcare, higher education, central utility plants, and data centers

Skills/abilities:

- Good communication skills, combined with organizational skills, the ability to plan, balance and prioritize work

- Ability to lead and work as a team

- Proficiency in Auto CAD, Revit, and MS Office

- Ability to travel

Location: Greenwood Village, CO

Travel: 10%

Compensation & Benefits:

The expected base salary range for this role is $90,000 - $120,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
