Position Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of medical laboratory equipment and related systems. This position provides high-quality technical support to internal customers while helping ensure equipment reliability, accurate service documentation, regulatory compliance, and effective equipment lifecycle management.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in biomedical, electronic, mechanical, and computer technologies, along with the ability to independently diagnose equipment issues, coordinate vendor services, manage preventative maintenance activities, and maintain accurate equipment and parts inventories.

Key Responsibilities

- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain medical laboratory equipment using electronic, mechanical, and technical principles.
- Perform and oversee preventative maintenance, equipment installations, inspections, special projects, and other scheduled services.
- Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers for contracted maintenance and repairs, ensuring work meets manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain accurate equipment inventory, preventative maintenance schedules, and service records within the service management system.
- Generate and review equipment, quality assurance, preventative maintenance, inventory, and service reports.
- Manage parts inventory, including receiving, issuing, returns, exchanges, and periodic inventory validation.
- Partner with laboratory teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve equipment issues and minimize operational disruption.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of biomedical engineering experience in a hospital, clinical, or commercial laboratory environment. Commercial laboratory experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and/or computer engineering principles and applications.
- Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with computers, databases, reporting tools, and related engineering applications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, diagrams, equipment specifications, and manufacturer instructions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to teach, present, and provide technical guidance.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to operate and support general laboratory equipment, including analyzers, centrifuges, computers, and related instrumentation.
