Job Description

Shape compensation strategy for some of Ameriprise's most critical businesses, including U.S. Wealth Management, RiverSource Insurance & Annuities, and Field Operations. As a Senior Compensation Consultant, you'll partner directly with business leaders to deliver market insights, solve complex workforce challenges, and influence talent decisions that attract, retain, and motivate top talent. We're seeking a strategic advisor with strong business acumen, executive presence, and the ability to build credibility and influence across all levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Partner with Business Leaders

- Serve as the primary compensation consultant for assigned business areas.
- Build trusted partnerships with business leaders and HR teams to understand priorities and translate them into practical compensation strategies.
- Advise on hiring, promotions, organizational changes, career progression, and retention.

Deliver Market Intelligence and Strategic Analysis

- Conduct market pricing and competitive analyses using survey data and industry benchmarks.
- Analyze market and workforce trends to identify risks, opportunities, and emerging practices.
- Recommend pay positioning and compensation structures that balance competitiveness, internal equity, and business needs.

Lead Compensation Projects and Initiatives

- Lead or support enterprise and business-specific compensation initiatives.
- Support annual compensation planning, pay program reviews, job evaluations, and career framework work.
- Improve compensation processes and program effectiveness.

Support Executive and Leadership Decisions

- Prepare clear, decision-focused analyses and presentations for senior leaders and executive reviews.
- Develop recommendations that reflect business priorities, market competitiveness, internal equity, and governance.

Educate and Influence

- Serve as a compensation subject matter expert and provide practical guidance to leaders, HR partners, and employees.
- Explain compensation philosophy, market dynamics, policies, and pay decisions in clear business terms.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience in compensation, total rewards, HR consulting, or a related field.
- Strong business acumen and experience advising leaders on complex workforce issues.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Compensation consulting experience in financial services or another complex, highly regulated industry.
- Experience with market pricing, salary structures, job evaluation, compensation surveys, and HR technology.
- Experience supporting leaders through organizational growth and change.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation.

In-Office Collaboration

We are a client-centric, relationship-based business. Working together, in-person, is foundational to how we achieve results. By fostering a culture of face-to-face collaboration, idea sharing, productivity and personal connection, we deliver for our stakeholders — clients, advisors, employees and shareholders. Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time or different in-office expectations, and specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $107,000 - $147,100 / year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
