Position Summary

The Damage Prevention Specialist plays a critical role in protecting underground utility infrastructure through field investigations, risk management, line locate verification, damage prevention education, and field reporting. This position works closely with utility operators, contractors, excavators, and industry stakeholders to reduce utility damages, improve excavation safety, and support regulatory compliance efforts. Responsibilities align with utility damage prevention programs and industry best practices, including participation in organizations such as NRCGA and support of line locating and excavation damage prevention activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct field investigations of utility damages, near misses, and excavation-related incidents.

- Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions to reduce future risk.

- Perform line locate verification and quality assurance audits of locate markings.

- Document field observations, investigations, inspections, and corrective actions using Survey123 and GIS-based tools.

- Support damage prevention and risk management initiatives for utility clients.

- Monitor compliance with One-Call (811) requirements and safe excavation practices.

- Assist with contractor, excavator, and stakeholder outreach and education programs.

- Represent the company at industry meetings, training events, and NRCGA activities.

- Prepare clear, accurate reports for clients, management, and regulatory purposes.

Qualifications

Who You Are

- Experience in utility operations, damage prevention, line locating, inspections, engineering, or a related field.

- Knowledge of underground utility systems and excavation safety practices.

- Familiarity with 811 One-Call processes and damage prevention regulations.

- Experience with Survey123, GIS, GPS data collection, or similar field technology preferred.

- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently in both field and office environments.
