Facilities Specialist (Water & Wastewater Treatment Systems)

Position Overview

ASM is seeking an experienced Facilities Specialist (Water & Wastewater Treatment Systems) to support the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of critical utility systems within our semiconductor R&D and manufacturing facility. This role serves as the technical owner for water, wastewater, cooling, and mechanical utility systems while partnering closely with Facilities Operations, Engineering, EHS, and external vendors to ensure optimal system performance, environmental compliance, and operational reliability.

What you'll be working on

Technical Ownership & System Reliability

- Serve as the technical owner for assigned water, wastewater, cooling, and mechanical utility systems.

- Monitor system performance, reliability, capacity, efficiency, and treatment effectiveness.

- Analyze operating data, trends, alarms, and analytical results to identify improvement opportunities.

- Troubleshoot equipment failures, process upsets, and system excursions.

- Maintain operating limits, alarm response guidance, and escalation plans.

Operations & Maintenance Support

- Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

- Participate in commissioning, startups, shutdowns, and return-to-service activities.

- Develop and improve maintenance procedures and emergency response plans.

- Coordinate vendor services including water treatment, cooling tower maintenance, and instrumentation calibration.

- Ensure availability of critical spare parts and consumables.

Environmental Compliance & Safety

- Ensure systems operate in accordance with environmental, health, and safety requirements.

- Partner with EHS on permit compliance, inspections, monitoring, reporting, and corrective actions.

- Support wastewater sampling, discharge monitoring, and treatment performance evaluations.

- Participate in safety programs including chemical safety, confined space, hazardous waste handling, and lockout/tagout practices.

Projects & Continuous Improvement

- Lead or support capital projects, system upgrades, and equipment replacement initiatives.

- Prepare project scopes, technical specifications, cost estimates, and schedules.

- Review engineering drawings, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and vendor proposals.

- Drive initiatives focused on water conservation, wastewater reduction, system reliability, and sustainability improvements.

Documentation & Vendor Management

- Manage contractor and vendor activities to ensure safe and successful execution.

- Maintain procedures, specifications, drawings, maintenance records, and performance documentation.

- Develop training materials and troubleshooting guides for operations and maintenance personnel.

- Document system changes, lessons learned, and corrective actions.

What we are looking for

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Facilities Management, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

- 10+ years of semiconductor industry experience.

- Experience supporting industrial water treatment, wastewater treatment, chemical treatment, high-purity water, cooling, or mechanical utility systems.

- Strong knowledge of pumps, piping, valves, instrumentation, filtration, chemical dosing, ion exchange, reverse osmosis, process controls, and analytical monitoring.

- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex utility systems using operating data, drawings, and field observations.

- Demonstrated commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

What sets you apart

- Experience in semiconductor fabrication or advanced manufacturing environments.

- Expertise with Acid Waste Neutralization (AWN), Ultra-Pure Water (UPW), fluoride removal, arsenic treatment, water reclamation, cooling towers, and process cooling water systems.

- Knowledge of industrial wastewater discharge permits, environmental regulations, and pretreatment programs.

- Experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, PLCs, supervisory control systems, and alarm management.

- Track record of leading capital improvement or infrastructure projects.

- Familiarity with chemical handling and industrial safety programs.

Work Environment

This position operates within active semiconductor manufacturing, utility, mechanical, wastewater treatment, and production support environments. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. After-hours support may be needed for system emergencies, shutdowns, startups, critical projects, or on-call rotations.
