About this role
JOB PURPOSE:
To direct the painting and decorating of the interior and exterior of buildings, equipment, machinery and furniture. He/she is responsible for planning and supervising painters and for maintaining records of the department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Knows the assigned location of all teams each week
2. Knows the specific van assignments for each team
3. Assures that each team has the proper tools/equipment and that tools/equipment are kept clean and properly maintained
4. Keeps everyone informed of the things that are happening on each team
5. Keeps team members updated on information coming from corporate
6. Conducts team meetings via telephone once a month
7. Arranges to visit each team as needed to train or assist with certain projects
8. Solves problems of day to day activities
9. Works with Contracting Department to ensure vans are properly serviced and maintained
10. Promotes partner safety by encouraging safe work practices and adherence to company’s safety program
11. Maintains a six month inventory of tools on each van
12. Performs skilled and semi-skilled painting tasks in the removal of existing paint, preparation of surfaces to be painted, and the application of a variety of surface materials with either brush or roller
13. Communicates with staff to establish and maintain effective working relationships
14. Evaluates staff in accordance with established policy
15. Erects, moves and works from scaffolds and ladders
16. Mixes and matches paints and stains by using proper pigments, base and thinner
17. Prepares surfaces to be painted by use of power cleaning equipment, scrapers, sandpaper, sanding machines, etc.
18. Applies paints, stains, sealers, varnishes, fillers, and other coating materials to interior and exterior of buildings, facilities, and equipment
19. Patches plaster and sheetrock by using fillers, tape, spackling compound, patching plasters, etc.
20. Assists other crews as needed
21. Responds to after hour emergencies as requested
22. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Has knowledge and understanding of the budget for the paint team
• Proficient in estimating materials and labor requirements
• A working knowledge about asbestos and handling
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High School diploma or have an equivalent GED.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Seven years of skilled/journeyman-level painter experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Valid Driver’s License. Certification in lead paint.
