Sr. Engineer (Manufacturing Technology Solutions)

The Sr. Engineer role is responsible for partnering with various business partners on technical proposals, design, and development of Manufacturing Technology projects — primarily, but not limited to, support of warehouse and manufacturing line operations. This position acts as the technical SME managing projects and working in collaboration across the Niagara network with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to: warehouse system improvements, software and data architecture design, creation of technical requirements leading to the development of manufacturing software applications and automation, integration into enterprise systems, managing project pilots, and analysis of data collected to justify future project deployments and identify ROI on new projects. This role builds and maintains automation and AI-assisted tooling directly - using SQL, cloud data platforms, and AI coding/agent-building tools as core instruments of the job.

Essential Functions

- Design, modify, and deploy Manufacturing Technology solutions through various software across multiple sites.
- Specify hardware requirements and assist in the design of software and data-pipeline systems dedicated to capturing process information including, but not limited to, OEE, FPY, Scrap, Rework, productivity, downtime analysis, and predictive maintenance.
- Recognize potential problems with existing systems and develop solutions, adapting to various engineering designs, applications, and process criteria.
- Write and maintain SQL against the manufacturing data warehouse (e.g., Databricks) to analyze operational questions, and build dashboards and automated reporting that present production data to plant staff and management.
- Develop business logic and automation that acts when certain events are detected in operations, to minimize the cost impact of those events.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify requirements, proactively define the overall technical approach, and develop innovative solutions that meet and exceed these needs.
- Investigate equipment failures and difficult-to-diagnose faulty operations, and make recommendations to engineers, suppliers, and customers.
- Design automated test cases and validation/exception logic for automated systems and data pipelines.
- Build and maintain automation scripts, data pipelines, and natural-language reporting tools using AI coding/analysis assistants (e.g., Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT); build agents/bots (e.g., Microsoft Copilot Studio) to automate operational workflows.
- Evaluate, pilot, and recommend new AI and data tooling; build reusable internal knowledge assets (documentation, semantic models, SOPs) so automation compounds across the team instead of remaining one-off scripts.
- Manage and report on project progress against schedule.
- Participate in strategic and tactical planning sessions.

This position requires up to 20-30% travel.
