Senior Demand Planner

What will you do?

A day in the life of a Senior Demand Planner at Smartwool looks a little like this.

You’ll play a key role in the Demand Planning and broader Supply Chain process, helping the business anticipate demand and make informed planning decisions.

In this role, you’ll develop, monitor, and maintain a rolling demand forecast using statistical forecasting tools, historical trends, and sales projections from cross-functional partners and customers. You’ll support a strategic business unit and play a leadership role in the S&OP process, helping drive alignment and consensus around the demand plan.

Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.

- Develop accurate demand plans using statistical forecasting tools, historical trends, and sales projections from cross-functional partners and customers.
- Prepare and facilitate monthly cross-functional demand meetings, driving alignment and consensus on the final forecast as part of the S&OP process.
- Use forecasting systems and analytical tools to improve forecast accuracy through root cause analysis, product lifecycle planning, trend identification, and exception-based forecasting.
- Monitor and report forecast performance, identify the drivers of forecast variance, and develop and execute actions to improve demand planning accuracy.
- Provide stakeholders across all levels of the organization with updated forecasts, analysis, and business insights through both verbal presentations and written reporting.
- Partner with Supply Planning to develop purchasing and supply strategies that balance demand, production requirements, inventory, and capacity constraints.
- Lead cross-functional process improvements that strengthen demand planning effectiveness and improve customer service levels.

What do you need to succeed?

We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundation skills you’ll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in a related field is great to have, we are most interested in your 3+ years of relevant business experience, preferably in the outdoor industry.

- Strong Excel skills (required) and experience with Logility (preferred) or another demand planning or forecasting system.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to apply industry best practices while also identifying new and creative approaches to solving problems.
- Self-directed, organized, and comfortable working independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience with SAP, Brio, Cognos, or similar reporting and query tools is a plus.
- Professional certification through IBF and/or APICS is preferred.
- Ability to travel occasionally, approximately 5%.
