The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and compliance of pharmacy operations. This role oversees staff, budgeting, and regulatory adherence while ensuring the safe and effective preparation and dispensing of medications. The director collaborates with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes, drives quality and safety initiatives, and ensures efficient, high-standard pharmaceutical care across all services.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the overall management and operation of the pharmacy.
- Supervise staff, managing budgets, ensuring compliance with regulations, providing high-quality patient care, and maintaining inventory.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes.
- Acts as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to oversee the pharmacy's operations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and providing high-quality pharmaceutical care.
- The PIC is responsible for managing pharmacy staff, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of medications to patients.
- Oversee the daily operations of the pharmacy department.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Ensure efficient workflow and optimize the use of pharmacy resource.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and interns.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and development. Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Ensure the accurate and safe preparation and dispensing of medications.
- Monitor medication therapy management and patient outcomes. Implement and oversee medication safety initiatives and protocols.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies.
- Maintain accurate records of medication dispensing and controlled substances.
- Prepare for and participate in inspections by regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies.
- Develop and manage the pharmacy budget.
- Monitor expenditures and implement cost-control measures.
- Analyze financial performance and prepare financial reports.
Education/Experience
- Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with PharmD required
- Master of Science or Master of Business Administration preferred
- Current active registration and licensure with the State of New Jersey Board of Pharmacy required
- 5 years of hospital experience with strong leadership and management abilities
