Janitor

Specific Role:

The Janitor plays a vital role in keeping EMIT’s facility safe, clean, and welcoming. With a strong eye for detail and pride in their work, this role ensures that all workspaces - including offices, restrooms, break areas, and production zones are sanitized, stocked, and maintained to support a healthy and productive environment.

Key Accountabilities:

Cleaning & Sanitizing Indoor Areas

- Clean and disinfect restrooms, breakrooms, and high-touch surfaces.

- Flush drains in restrooms and breakrooms as needed.

- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors across offices, hallways, and shared spaces.

- Dust and wipe down furniture, counters, fixtures, and equipment.

Waste Management

- Empty and clean trash and recycling bins regularly.

- Transport waste to proper disposal or recycling areas.

- Ensure all bins are relined and ready for use.

Supply Stocking & Equipment Care

- Restock soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other consumables.

- Maintain and clean janitorial equipment.

- Monitor inventory levels and request resupplies before running low.

Safety & Maintenance Awareness

- Identify and report maintenance needs or safety concerns (e.g., leaks, trip hazards, broken fixtures).

- Support internal safety and cleanliness standards.

- Use appropriate signage during cleaning activities (e.g., wet floor signs).

Light Outdoor Upkeep

- Perform seasonal outdoor tasks such as snow removal, de-icing, sweeping entryways, and leaf cleanup.

- Maintain neat, hazard-free entryways and walkways.

- Collect debris from parking lots and keep outdoor seating areas clean.

Qualifications:

- Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred, but not required.

- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean environment.

- Reliability, punctuality, and ability to work independently.

- Willingness to perform both indoor and outdoor cleaning tasks in varying conditions.

Physical & Safety Requirements:

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

- Comfortable standing, walking, and moving for the duration of a shift.

- Always use proper PPE when required.

- Follow safety protocols when using tools and handling cleaning materials.
