Veterinary Medical Center of Woodland Hills is looking for an experienced, compassionate Part-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. We are a busy, collaborative hospital with a team of five doctors, and we value teamwork, cross-training, and continued learning.
We’re looking for someone who is confident working with patients and clients, enjoys a fast-paced environment, and is motivated to expand their veterinary skills.
Pay: $21.00–$25.00/hour, depending on experience
Part-time position
Open availability, including Saturdays
What You'll Do
As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll work closely with our Veterinarians and veterinary technicians to provide excellent patient care and keep the hospital running smoothly. Responsibilities include:
- Safely handling and restraining patients
- Rooming patients and assisting with appointments
- Assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians with exams, treatments, and procedures
- Placing IV catheters and performing venipuncture
- Running in-house laboratory testing using IDEXX
- Obtaining diagnostic radiographs and ensuring proper patient positioning
- Preparing patients for surgery
- Assisting with surgical recovery
- Monitoring anesthesia under the direction of the veterinary team
- Demonstrating basic at-home care to clients, such as ear cleaning and medication administration
- Providing compassionate and professional client communication
- Maintaining knowledge of commonly used medications
- Preparing medication labels and filling prescriptions
- Cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking treatment areas and supplies
- Cross-training with other members of the veterinary team as needed
- Contributing to a positive, supportive, and collaborative hospital environment
What We're Looking For
- Previous veterinary assistant experience; 2+ years preferred
- Experience with animal handling and restraint
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced veterinary environment
- Experience with venipuncture and IV catheter placement preferred
- Familiarity with in-house laboratory equipment, particularly IDEXX , preferred
- Experience obtaining radiographs and positioning patients
- Experience assisting with surgery and anesthesia monitoring
- Knowledge of commonly used veterinary medications
- Comfortable communicating with clients and providing basic client education
- Positive, dependable, and team-oriented attitude
- Willingness to learn and cross-train
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient care
- Availability to work Saturdays
