Position Summary:

The Staff Systems Engineer is a senior individual contributor and technical leader responsible for defining, integrating, and delivering complex product systems throughout the product lifecycle. Serving as the Technical Lead for major New Product Development (NPD) programs, this role ensures the complete product meets customer, business, performance, quality, regulatory, manufacturability, serviceability, and safety requirements.

The role supports the development of fuel dispensers, payment terminals, and electric-vehicle charging products. Working across electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and other product-development disciplines, the Staff Systems Engineer develops cohesive system solutions aligned with technical requirements and business objectives. The position provides system-level technical direction, leads cross-functional engineering execution, mentors engineers, and advances common systems-engineering methods and standards.

Position Responsibilities:

System Integration and Technical Ownership

- Own the system-level technical solution and integration across electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, quality, manufacturing, and service disciplines. Coordinate system interfaces and dependencies with Software Technical Leads when software is included in the product scope.
- Define system design, interfaces, operating concepts, trade studies, integration strategy, technical risks, and system-level design decisions for complex product changes.
- Ensure interfaces are documented, compatible, and validated; resolve cross-functional integration issues and technical tradeoffs with architecture and component teams.
- Lead and, where assigned by program scope and resource plan, personally execute detailed system-level CAD design for product enclosures, assemblies, tube routing, cable/wiring integration, and configuration matrices.
- Define the associated system requirements, interfaces, integration constraints, and acceptance criteria; coordinate detailed work with Component Engineering and other discipline owners.
- Create and maintain system engineering documentation, including product design descriptions, interface documentation, wiring diagrams, system ECOs, and product matrices.

NPD Technical Lead and Project Leadership

- Serve as technical lead for assigned NPD programs, coordinating engineering work to meet program scope, schedule, cost, quality, and technical-readiness objectives.
- Translate the Marketing Requirement Document (MRD), customer needs, applicable standards, business case, and product strategy into a clear, measurable, and traceable Product Requirement Specification (PRS).
- Lead MRD-to-PRS gap analysis; resolve ambiguous or missing requirements with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders; obtain required reviews and approvals.
- Maintain requirements traceability through design, verification, validation, and release.
- Partner with Program Management to develop engineering scope, schedules, resource needs, prototype strategy, cost inputs, and risk-mitigation plans.
- Lead core-team technical activities, including design reviews, risk reviews, technical issue resolution, tollgates, and Engineer Review Board (ERB); make timely decisions and escalate unresolved issues.

Verification, Validation, Risk, and Compliance

- Define clear, measurable, testable, and traceable system requirements, including acceptance criteria, operating conditions, interfaces, and safety/regulatory constraints.
- Define the system verification and validation strategy and maintain requirements traceability through release.
- Provide requirements, acceptance criteria, and technical context to the System Quality team.
- Collaborate with the System Quality team to ensure test coverage adequately verifies system requirements, integration risks, and intended use.
- Review test plans, procedures, results, and reports for requirements alignment and coverage; clarify requirements and support technical disposition of failures.
- Lead system-level DFMEA and use test, prototype, field, and production information to identify and resolve system risks.
- Ensure safety, regulatory, and certification requirements are incorporated into system requirements, design decisions, and release criteria.

Technical Leadership, Standards, and Mentoring

- Act as a technical leader and role model for systems thinking, integration discipline, requirements rigor, risk management, and customer-centered engineering decisions.
- Mentor and coach engineers; conduct technical reviews and help develop systems-engineering and technical-lead capability across Hardware Engineering.
- Establish and improve systems-engineering methods, templates, design practices, interface documentation, and NPD technical-lead processes.
- Apply established systems-engineering standards and reusable solutions; identify and recommend improvements based on program experience.
- Influence and align stakeholders across functions without direct authority to achieve product and program outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering discipline (preferably electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, systems engineering, or a related engineering discipline).

- Desired experience level 7+ years.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical work across multiple engineering disciplines and functions.
- Experience developing product/system requirements, architecture or interface definitions, verification and validation strategies, requirements traceability, and test-coverage assessment, risk analyses, and technical documentation.
- Experience supporting products through design, prototype, validation, release, and sustaining phases.
- Strong technical judgment, structured problem-solving ability, communication skills, and ability to influence without direct authority.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD, including creating and modifying parts, assemblies, and drawings for sheet-metal enclosures, mechanical packaging, tube routing, and product-level integration.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience serving as a technical lead on formal NPD or stage-gate product-development programs.
- Experience with PRS, MRD, component specifications, requirements traceability, DFMEA, design reviews, ERB approvals, verification/validation, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with product configuration, BOMs, ECOs, product documentation, prototype builds, manufacturing transition, and field validation.
- Familiarity with systems involving electrical/electronic architecture, wiring and cables, mechanical enclosures, hydraulics, or connected products.
- Experience mentoring engineers and establishing engineering standards, processes, or reusable technical practices.
- Experience applying product safety, regulatory, and certification requirements to product development, including familiarity with UL, FCC, and weights-and-measures requirements.

Essential Functions:

- Deliver high-quality hardware designs within project timelines.
- Work independently while collaborating effectively within global teams.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Contribute to technical discussions and support decision-making processes.
- Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and attention to detail.
- Support team growth through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Fluent English is required.
