About the role

The role will support Carrier manufacturing operations while leading new technology development and implementation programs. The engineer will serve as a key technical liaison between the Heat Transfer Manufacturing team in Syracuse and Carrier’s manufacturing facilities in Mexico, ensuring effective communication, knowledge transfer, design alignment, manufacturing

readiness, and successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide technical support for the design, fabrication, industrialization, and manufacturing of heat exchangers for HVAC applications, including RTPF and MXHX technologies.
- Support manufacturing operations by leading technical investigations related to production, quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and supplier performance.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between the Heat Transfer Manufacturing team in Syracuse and Carrier manufacturing facilities in Mexico.
- Coordinate the transfer of heat exchanger manufacturing knowledge, technical standards, design practices, lessons learned, and process requirements across global teams.
- Lead and support new heat transfer technology development programs from concept and feasibility assessment through qualification, industrialization, and production implementation.
- Support the material transition for HX technologies.
- Provide technical leadership for strategic programs
- Collaborate with global cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Management, Testing and Validation, and external suppliers.
- Evaluate heat exchanger designs for performance, manufacturability, cost, quality, reliability, serviceability, and compliance with applicable engineering standards.
- Lead engineering studies, design reviews, risk assessments, tolerance analyses, and root cause investigations.
- Support the development and execution of heat exchanger qualification plans, manufacturing trials, process validation activities, and product testing.
- Analyze test results and manufacturing data to confirm that product and process requirements are achieved.
- Apply structured engineering and quality tools to resolve technical issues and prevent recurring manufacturing or product failures.
- Identify opportunities for product commonality, design optimization, material reduction, cost improvement, and manufacturing process enhancement.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, technicians, and cross-functional project teams.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Carrier design, safety, quality, qualification, and product development requirements.

Requirements

- Strong understanding of heat transfer principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and HVAC refrigeration systems.
- Technical knowledge of heat exchanger design, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with Round Tube Plate Fin heat exchangers, including tubing, fins, tube expansion, brazing, joining, leak testing, and corrosion protection.
- Experience with Microchannel Heat Exchangers, including aluminum materials, extrusion, fin and tube assembly, brazing, header design, joining technologies, leak testing, and corrosion considerations.
- Understanding of heat exchanger performance parameters such as capacity, pressure drop, airflow, refrigerant distribution, heat transfer effectiveness, and structural integrity.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles.
- Knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, tolerance analysis, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Experience applying engineering and quality tools such as Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Design of Experiments, root cause analysis, statistical process control, and corrective action methodologies.
- Experience supporting manufacturing process qualification, pilot builds, production launches, and continuous improvement activities.
- Knowledge of materials and joining technologies used in copper and aluminum heat exchanger manufacturing.
- Familiarity with product qualification, reliability testing, corrosion testing, and applicable HVAC industry standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in heat exchanger design, manufacturing, product development, advanced manufacturing, or HVAC systems.
- Experience working with global and cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Ability to lead technical programs and coordinate multiple stakeholders across different locations.
- Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to travel to Carrier engineering and manufacturing locations.

Although not necessary, it would be nice if you have:

- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Sciences, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Direct experience with RTPF and MXHX design, manufacturing, testing, or industrialization.
- Familiarity with HVAC product development and qualification processes.
- Experience with cost reduction, value engineering, supplier development, and manufacturing process optimization.
- Project Management certification or demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects.
