PAY RANGE $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

REPORTS TO Sales & Operations Manager
Green Waste Recycle Yard (GWRY), part of The Professional Tree Care Company, is hiring a Yard Laborer for our Richmond yard. This hands-on role supports daily operations through cleanup, fire watch, dust suppression, basic maintenance, and assistance with custom orders.
This is an entry-level position. Previous experience is not required, but the ability to follow instructions, work safely, and learn new tasks is essential. GWRY provides training on assigned tools, vehicles, equipment, and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Yard Cleanup: Remove sawdust, offcuts, garbage, and debris from the yard, processing areas, work areas, and mechanic’s shop.
- Dust Suppression: Learn to safely operate the manual-transmission water truck within the yard for dust suppression and yard maintenance.
- Safety & Fire Watch: Serve as designated fire watch while processing equipment, including the horizontal grinder, is operating. Continuously monitor for smoke or fire, report hazards promptly, and use fire extinguishers and hoses as trained. Remain attentive and free from distractions throughout the assignment.
- Equipment Operation: Learn to safely operate a forklift and skid-steer after receiving company training and authorization.
- Tool Handling: Learn to safely use drills, sanders, grinders, circular saws, chop saws, and chainsaws after receiving training and authorization.
- Order Preparation: Assist with sanding, drilling, cutting, stacking, moving, and preparing custom orders.
- Basic Maintenance: Perform weed removal and routine yard maintenance. Assist with cleaning and greasing machinery using approved safety procedures.
- Team Support: Assist other yard employees and complete related duties assigned by management as daily operational needs change.
Required Qualifications
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and readiness for scheduled shifts.
- Ability to listen carefully, follow instructions consistently, ask questions when unsure, and apply feedback.
- Willingness to learn new tasks, tools, and equipment and complete required company training.
- Ability to remain alert and focused during fire watch and around moving vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and complete assigned tasks with attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license for assigned yard-truck duties.
Preferred Experience — Not Required
- Experience in landscaping, construction, recycling, manufacturing, or other physical labor.
- Experience with hand or power tools, material handling, or basic equipment maintenance.
- Experience driving a manual-transmission vehicle or operating a forklift or skid-steer.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work takes place primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, around moving vehicles,
heavy equipment, logs, and lumber, with exposure to dust and noise.
Essential duties include standing and walking for extended periods; bending, pushing, and
pulling; and regularly lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Applicants must be able to perform the essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Use lifting aids or team assistance when needed.
Safety Expectations
- Wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, high-visibility clothing, and hearing protection, as required for the task.
- Operate tools, vehicles, and equipment only after company training and management authorization.
- Immediately report injuries, near misses, fires, equipment problems, and unsafe conditions to the Sales & Operations Manager.
