About this role

Redwood Credit Union is looking for an SBA/Commercial Credit Analyst I, who will prepare SBA and commercial loan applications in accordance with the Credit Union’s underwriting guidelines and influence the quality of credit through guideline adherence. Draft loan recommendations, including analysis of financial and other information, to present in a concise, accurate written form as prescribed by Credit Union. Assist with administration of the loan portfolio. Develop, learn, understand, and adhere to SBA lending and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Must possess working knowledge of loan requirements for SBA and commercial lending with a demonstrated ability to perform research activities and loan portfolio analyses.
 
Key Responsibilities
Business Loan Functions:
o Analyze credit worthiness, including review of tax returns, financial statements, credit reports, business plans, and other relevant information.
o Prepare draft credit recommendation, risk rating recommendation, spreadsheets, and other approval documents.
o Structure credit memos to best meet the Credit Union’s risk and profitability requirements while maintaining a competitive position in the marketplace.
o Maintain contact with other credit administration team members through the loan closing process as needed, to ensure all conditions and loan requirements are satisfied, including regulatory compliance.
o Perform periodic review of loans; maintains contact with Members and RCU team members as required.
o Assist with portfolio review as assigned, review and prepare annual portfolio analysis.
o Maintain a complete understanding of RCU credit policy and guidelines with ability to research independently for unknowns.
o Learn and gain understanding of SBA eligibility requirements under the SBA 7(a) and 504 guaranteed loan programs, with ability to research independently.
o Ensure compliance with pertinent government rules and regulations.
o Manage file through underwriting and approval process, working with loan officer, credit staff, Members, and outside service providers throughout process.
Member Service:
o Provide exceptional service to all Members, volunteers, internal team members and service providers.
o Respond to credit inquires.
o Call Members to request financial information or documentation, as required.
o Answer Member questions as they relate to Business Service deposits and loans.

Minimum Qualification: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Current knowledge of laws, rules and regulations pertaining to business lending and compliance.

- Knowledge of all aspects of financial institution business services including lending methods, practices, and services.

- Strong analytical skills to make sound credit decisions with some assistance.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

- Ability to manage time effectively and work under deadlines and stress.

- Knowledge of credit and interest rate economics.

- Knowledge of asset, liabilities, credit dynamics in a business services lending environment.

- Skill in the operation of a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software and Intra/Internet access.

- Ability to work independently with some supervision.

- Ability to problem solve using critical thinking to identify and resolve issues.

The ideal candidate has a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and a minimum of two years of experience with commercial financial analysis or underwriting in SBA and/or business lending.
 
Compensation: Base starting range: $34.00 to $46.00 hourly commensurate with experience.
Our base salary starting range is based on scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity. Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist, and turn.

• Work environment is indoors; majority of the time is spent sitting at a desk.
