At Metso, you’ll be part of a collaborative team delivering innovative Electrical, Instrumentation and Control (EIC) solutions across the mining, ports infrastructure and bulk materials handling sectors.
We are interested in connecting with Control Systems Engineers who are looking to build their career with a global organisation and contribute to technically diverse projects. This is an Expression of Interest for potential future opportunities based in Mackay , with opportunities suited to engineers with 2+ years’ experience through to more experienced control systems professionals.
Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute across electrical design, PLC and SCADA systems, commissioning, functional safety and project delivery. Our team also supports advanced automation technologies used to optimise bulk stockyards and ship loader operations globally.
About the Opportunity
Depending on your experience, you may be involved across the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through to programming, testing, commissioning and client handover.
Areas of responsibility may include:
- Designing, developing and commissioning PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems
- Developing and reviewing engineering documentation, including functional design specifications
- Participating in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Providing technical support throughout project delivery
- Working collaboratively with electrical, instrumentation, mechanical and project teams
- Supporting commissioning and troubleshooting activities at client sites
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, quality systems and technical standards
- Working with customers and other stakeholders to deliver effective automation solutions
About You
We’re interested in hearing from motivated and technically capable engineers who enjoy solving complex automation and control challenges and working as part of a project-focused team.
You may bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics or a related Engineering discipline
- 2+ years’ experience in control systems, automation or a related engineering environment
- Experience with PLC programming and control systems
- Exposure to SCADA and HMI systems
- An understanding of instrumentation, industrial networks and control system engineering practices
- Experience preparing technical documentation and supporting project delivery
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities
- Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
Experience within mining, particularly surface operations, CHPPs, stockyard machines or bulk materials handling, will be highly regarded. Experience with commissioning, site-based projects or industrial automation will also be valuable.
