Overview:
RMIT Vietnam is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Reporting and Tax to lead financial reporting, accounting, tax and treasury functions, ensuring strong financial governance, compliance and effective decision-making across the University. This is a high-impact opportunity to provide strategic financial oversight, strengthen internal controls, and partner with senior leaders, auditors, regulators and RMIT stakeholders in Melbourne. The role will lead a team across financial reporting and tax, driving accurate statutory reporting, tax compliance, financial risk management and continuous improvement of finance processes and systems. This opportunity is open to Vietnamese candidates and can be based in either Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Reporting and Tax leads the organization’s financial reporting, general accounting, taxation, and treasury functions to ensure accurate, compliant, and effective financial management. The role provides strategic financial oversight, manages financial risks and governance, and partners with senior leadership, internal stakeholders, auditors, and regulatory authorities to support organizational objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Accountabilities summary
1. Leadership and team management
- Lead, coach, and develop finance team members to ensure high performance and continuous capability development.
- Drive continuous improvement and transformation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and financial effectiveness.
- Lead and deliver Finance training program for the finance as well as non-finance staff
- Develop, foster, and maintain strong networks and relationships with key stakeholders, both in country and with RMIT Melbourne
2. Reporting and treasury
- Lead and oversee financial reporting, general accounting, tax, and treasury operations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
- Manage month-end and year-end financial close processes, statutory reporting (VAS, AASB), and financial statement preparation.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (VAS, AASB), taxation legislation, treasury requirements, and internal financial controls.
- Manage all activities necessary to fulfill annual VAS and AASB statutory year-end requirements, with the primary goal of achieving a clean audit.
- Provide strategic financial advice, analysis, and recommendations to support organizational decision-making and financial sustainability.
- Prepare reports, financial analysis, and presentations for senior leadership, committees, and external stakeholders.
- Provide strategic advice and guidance on accounting treatment, focusing on compliance and tax minimization.
- Drive understanding and accountability of financial accounting requirements and compliance across the University
- Accountable for University’s balance sheet and cash flow statement of annual budget and forecast.
- Oversee cash flow management, banking relationships, liquidity planning, and treasury activities.
- Optimize the usage of the University’s cash position to ensure the availability of cash for University operations and obligations while maximizing additional benefits derived from cash surplus for the University.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the line manager.
3. Tax planning and Tax Management
- Manage tax planning and filling of the University to ensure fully optimize the eligible tax incentive for the University while ensure the compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Oversea tax reporting ensuring robust control and compliance
- Manage the tax audit with tax authorities with the goal of achieving clean audit reports
- Provide strategic advice and guidance on tax treatment, focussing on compliance and tax minimisation
4. Internal Control System:
- Oversea and execute processes to ensure the integrity of financial reporting, regulatory compliance and prevent fraud.
- Lead and manage the audit on internal control system on both regular and ad-hoc basic.
- Ensure that Management and stakeholders are provided with quantitative, accurate and timely report on internal control system for decision making
5. Finance Business System management
- Lead train the trainer for finance related systems.
- Manage and execute the visibility and robust control of finance and related business processes via maintain and manage finance related systems enabling robust financial control processes, providing business intelligence capabilities to support the business decision making.
- Oversea and manage the accuracy and integrity of financial data compiled and recorded against operating activities over its entire life-cycle through information systems and financial controlling processes.
- Evaluate and provide strategic recommendations for continuous improvement opportunities of finance related systems including but not limited to finance (Workday), student finance management (SAMs), and online payment (Xetta) systems.
6. Control and Compliance
- Embed financial risk management into the Finance, develop and coordinate the maintenance of the risk register, ensuring that the Executive Team have all relevant information to review significant risks
- Identify and take action upon actual or potential risks in the course of operation
- Evaluate on a regular basis the effectiveness of relevant processes and controls, and discuss with the management team as necessary
- Lead and effectively communicate on compliance with the Financial Procedures Manual, and ensure that all procedures and policies are business-focused.
- Lead on technical accounting compliance requirements, developing knowledge throughout the organization to ensure compliance and high-quality delivery of service
Key Selection Criteria
- Minimum of 8-10 years relevant experience in financial reporting, general accounting, tax, and treasury management within a complex organization.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar positions.Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, with CPA/CA/ Master of Finance qualification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards (VAS, AASB, IFRS), taxation legislation, treasury management, financial governance, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience managing statutory reporting, financial close processes, audits, and financial controls.
- Proven ability to provide strategic financial advice, analysis, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Strong experience in cash flow management, treasury operations, and financial risk management.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including managing, coaching, and developing high-performing finance teams.
- Proven ability to improve financial processes, systems, controls, and reporting frameworks to enhance efficiency and compliance.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across all organizational levels and with external parties.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Excellent in ERP system and finance software.
- Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, RMIT Values and RMIT Leadership Model.
