About this role

ENGINEER, ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE, OR ENGINEERING REPRESENTATIVE

The successful candidate will be hired as an Engineer, Engineering Associate, or Engineering Representative based upon education, experience, demonstrated competencies, and business needs.

Work Location: Savannah Operations Center - 3102 Kilowatt Dr, Savannah, GA 31405

Augusta North Leg Office- 2103 North Leg Road, Augusta, GA 30909

Candidate must currently live within a reasonable, daily commuting distance to either the Savannah Operations Center or Augusta North Leg offices or be willing to immediately relocate to be within commuting distance. Relocation assistance available if needed.

JOB SUMMARY

This position provides engineering design, construction coordination, project management, customer support, planning support, reliability improvement, asset management, and operational support for the network underground system, including duct lines, manholes, vaults, submersible cable, and associated equipment. Responsibilities include service and system design, estimating, maintenance, billing, and coordination of construction and permitting activities for large residential, commercial, and industrial projects. The position serves as a primary point of contact for customers, developers, contractors, governmental agencies, construction coordinators, operations personnel, Distribution, Transmission, Metering, Sales, Planning, Accounting, Supply Chain, and local leadership.

The successful candidate must provide superior customer service, prepare and schedule construction work to meet committed service dates, and process all documentation in accordance with compliance requirements. Additional responsibilities include responding to customer inquiries, investigating voltage complaints and claims, supporting asset management programs, and advancing reliability, system performance, and continuous improvement initiatives. The candidate must exercise sound judgment and balance safety, customer satisfaction, reliability, compliance, and financial stewardship when making engineering and operational decisions.

Education and Experience:

Engineering Representative

Preferred, but not required: Two-year accredited technical degree; four-year accredited non-engineering degree; EUT certification; or equivalent utility experience and qualifications, as determined by the company.

Engineering Associate

Required: Four-year accredited bachelor’s degree in mathematics or science, or a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree.

Engineer

Required: Four-year accredited Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Preferred Qualifications

- Network underground engineering or field crew experience.
- Distribution or network underground experience with an electric utility.
- Construction coordination experience.
- Project management experience.
- Experience with GIS and engineering design software.
- EUT certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Strong technical engineering skills and understanding of electric power systems.
- Knowledge of general engineering and construction principles.
- Knowledge of electrical system operations, network underground systems, and underground and overhead construction practices.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
- Preferred working knowledge of JETS, GIS, and DistView.
- Preferred knowledge of the Franchise Manual, Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook and Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, arc-flash requirements, Metering Blue Book, Consistency Manual, and financial and business goals.
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of Georgia Power and Southern Company network underground construction practices, guidelines, and procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and related engineering software systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with sound judgment in evaluating engineering and operational risk.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet strict deadlines, and deliver desired results.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and influence outcomes across customers, engineers, Customer Service, Sales, corporate partners, and line crew personnel.
- Ability to work collaboratively, provide excellent internal and external customer service, manage expectations, and resolve challenging situations professionally.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to navigate uneven terrain and active construction sites.
- Ability to work extended hours during outages, emergencies, and storm restoration events.

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

- At least one year of verifiable driving experience and a valid driver’s license for the class of vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered valid driver’s licenses.
- No revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months before application; no convictions for major traffic violations, including DUI, hit-and-run, or reckless driving, within the 12 months before application; and no pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
- Consent to continuous monitoring of the candidate’s Motor Vehicle Record.
