ABOUT THE ROLE
The Engineer II – Special Processes is a hands-on technical role responsible for supporting the development, qualification, and industrialization of aerospace special processes for Powertech’s propulsion programs, including turbofan, microjet, and piston engines.
This role focuses on technical execution and support, contributing to special process development and qualification for rotating, structural, and hot-section engine components in a greenfield manufacturing environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the development, qualification, and continuous improvement of aerospace special processes for rotating, structural, and hot-section engine components.
- Apply hands-on knowledge of special process technologies such as shot peening, thermal spray coatings (HVOF, plasma spray, wear-resistant and environmental coatings), heat treatment, vacuum heat treatment, solution treatment, aging, and stress relief, brazing, surface preparation and grit blasting, cleaning, and chemical processing.
- Support creation and maintenance of manufacturing routings, process specifications, work instructions, and control plans.
- Assist with process validation activities including FAI, capability studies, and industrial qualification.
- Support statistical monitoring and data collection to ensure stable and repeatable process performance.
NPI & Production Support
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from prototype build through production readiness.
- Support production ramp-up, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
- Assist in resolving special process issues related to quality, cost, and delivery.
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to process performance and quality escapes.
Design-to-Manufacture Support
- Participate in concurrent engineering activities with design teams.
- Provide manufacturing feedback during design reviews to improve manufacturability, coating requirements, and process robustness.
- Support tolerance analysis, process selection, and material trade studies.
Supplier & Shop-Floor Support
- Support technical interactions with external special process suppliers and partners.
- Assist with supplier process reviews, part qualification, and issue resolution.
- Provide shop-floor support during process development, trials, and production builds.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in aerospace or propulsion manufacturing.
- Strong hands-on expertise at least two or more of the following aerospace special process technologies: shot peening, thermal spray coatings, heat treatment, brazing, chemical processing.
- Experience supporting NPI, prototype builds, or production environments.
- Practical, detail-oriented approach with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, greenfield manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of aerospace materials including titanium alloys, nickel-based superalloys, stainless steels, and aluminum alloys.
- Exposure to aerospace quality systems and special process qualification methodologies, including NADCAP requirements, is desirable.
- Understanding of process documentation, traceability, and configuration control practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to support shop-floor issue resolution.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, greenfield manufacturing environment with evolving processes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in aerospace or propulsion manufacturing.
