About this role

Responsibilities:

RFQ Review & Technical Assessment

- Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, BOMs, data packages, and customer standards to identify gaps and prepare structured clarification lists.

- Assess product design maturity, manufacturability, technical risks, and proposal feasibility.

Mechanical Design Assurance

- Own mechanical design assurance activities including 2D/3D CAD reviews and GD&T evaluations in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.

- Perform worst-case and RSS tolerance stack-up analysis to validate manufacturability and assembly robustness.

- Conduct structural, thermal, drop, and shock simulations to support product reliability and performance requirements.

Solution Development & Risk Management

- Define technical solutions, basis of estimate, assumptions, exclusions, dependencies, risks, and mitigation plans.

- Identify design and manufacturing risks and provide evidence-based recommendations to support bid decisions and project execution.

Technical Proposal & Costing Support

- Develop technical inputs for resource planning, equipment/tooling requirements, NRE estimates, CapEx assessments, lead-time evaluations, and implementation milestones.

- Prepare technical justifications, compliance matrices, proposal narratives, costing models, and management approval documentation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with Product Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, and Customer teams to ensure alignment on technical solutions.

- Challenge unsupported assumptions and reconcile inconsistencies across engineering, process, test, quality, automation, and supply chain inputs.

Supplier & Customer Engagement

- Support supplier technical evaluations, quotation reviews, and make-versus-buy analyses.

- Participate in solution reviews, customer clarification meetings, Red Team reviews, and Gold Team reviews to ensure proposal readiness.

NPI & Volume Manufacturing Readiness

- Drive design transfer activities into NPI and volume manufacturing.

- Define acceptance criteria, validation plans, and key deliverables required for successful execution following bid award.

Governance & Continuous Improvement

- Maintain controlled templates, lessons learned, engineering databases, and reusable estimation data for future programs.

- Ensure compliance with Tata Electronics information security, confidentiality, quality, and document control requirements.

Essential Attributes:

- Strong expertise in mechanical design assurance, GD&T interpretation, and tolerance stack-up analysis.

- Experience conducting 2D/3D CAD reviews and validating designs against manufacturing and assembly requirements.

- Proficiency in structural, thermal, drop, and shock simulation methodologies.

- Solid understanding of DFM/DFx principles, design risk assessment, and product validation planning.

- Experience managing product lifecycle processes including BOM management, engineering changes, configuration control, and release governance.

- Proven experience supporting customer RFQs, technical proposals, NPI programs, or manufacturing industrialization projects within EMS or complex product environments.

- Ability to identify technical risks and provide data-driven recommendations to support management decision-making.

- Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

- Ability to work effectively with global customers and suppliers across multiple time zones.

- Willingness to travel for customer workshops, supplier reviews, equipment trials, and program reviews as required.

Qualifications:

- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, ECE, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, or another discipline relevant to the role.

- Postgraduate specialization in Mechanical Design, Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,

Desired Experience Level:

- 8-12 years of experience in Product Engineering, Mechanical Design, Design Assurance, Manufacturing Industrialization, NPI, or related engineering functions within EMS, Electronics Manufacturing, Semiconductor, Automotive, or other complex product manufacturing environments.
