Job Description
We are inviting applications for the role of Senior Specialist – Information Services Vendor Management (Band 4D)!
We are looking for a senior commercial and vendor management leader to drive strategic vendor relationships, commercial negotiations, contract governance, and subscription management across the Information Services function. The role manages critical external vendor relationships, leads complex commercial negotiations, supports business stakeholders, drives contract and renewal strategy, and protects service continuity across a diverse portfolio of research, data, analytics, technology, subscription, and professional-services suppliers. The successful candidate will operate as a trusted advisor to business leadership while providing functional guidance to supporting vendor management resources.
Responsibilities
Strategic Vendor Management
- Manage a portfolio of strategic vendors supporting business operations and client delivery.
- Develop sustainable vendor relationships aligned to long-term business objectives.
- Act as the primary point of contact for complex vendor discussions and escalations.
- Lead vendor governance, performance reviews, issue resolution, and continuous-improvement actions.
Commercial Negotiation
- Lead complex commercial discussions, renewals, amendments, and negotiations from strategy through execution.
- Evaluate vendor proposals and recommend approaches that balance cost, risk, service continuity, operational needs, and business priorities.
- Develop negotiation strategies using business criticality, supplier leverage, switching cost, usage evidence, benchmarks, and market context.
- Negotiate sustainable commercial outcomes, protections, commitments, and flexibility while preserving effective vendor relationships.
- Manage sole-source and limited-alternative suppliers through structured trade-offs, escalation, and value-based negotiation levers.
Contract and Commercial Governance
- Review and assess vendor agreements, amendments, renewals, and commercial proposals.
- Identify contractual, operational, licensing, service-continuity, and commercial risks and translate them into clear business choices.
- Partner with Legal, Procurement, Finance, Compliance, Information Security, Technology, and business teams to support contract execution and governance.
- Ensure obligations, commitments, deliverables, renewal decisions, and approved commercial positions are effectively managed.
Business Partnership
- Partner directly with senior business stakeholders to understand requirements, intended usage, risks, and priorities.
- Provide recommendations on vendor strategy, renewals, service models, commercial options, and supplier alternatives.
- Support executive decision-making through analysis, risk assessment, market insight, and concise recommendations.
- Act as the bridge between business teams, governance functions, and vendor organizations.
Renewal and Portfolio Management
- Drive vendor lifecycle activities including onboarding, renewals, amendments, escalations, and exit planning.
- Use spend, entitlement, usage, performance, and business-demand information to shape portfolio and negotiation strategy.
- Drive right-sizing, consolidation, benchmarking, cost avoidance, and optimization initiatives.
- Establish governance processes that enable timely decisions, clear ownership, and continuity of service.
Team Leadership and Capability Building
- Provide day-to-day functional guidance and coaching to vendor management analysts and specialists.
- Set standards for negotiation planning, renewal readiness, documentation, escalation, and stakeholder communication.
- Develop practical operating procedures, playbooks, knowledge-sharing routines, and best practices.
- Help establish scalable governance models and working rhythms across the team.
Skills and Qualifications
- Relevant years of experience in vendor management, commercial negotiations, contract management, strategic sourcing, procurement, information services, or related business functions.
- Demonstrated personal ownership of complex negotiations with external vendors, including strategy, concessions, stakeholder alignment, and measurable outcomes.
- Experience managing high-value vendor relationships and a meaningful portfolio of contracts, subscriptions, or renewals.
- Experience supporting senior business stakeholders and executive-level decision-making.
- Strong understanding of commercial contracts, vendor governance, licensing, renewal strategy, and risk management.
- Proven experience managing complex cross-functional and global stakeholder environments.
- Preferred experience supporting subscription, research, data, analytics, technology, professional services, or information-services categories.
- Experience in consulting, advisory, financial services, technology, research, or professional-services environments is desirable.
