Travel Medical Assistant
Bring your Medical Assistant skills directly to patients in their homes. This temporary/seasonal role is built for a California-based MA who is comfortable working independently, traveling statewide, and supporting preventive-care visits such as Medicare Annual Wellness Visits.
Quick Details
- Location: California, with travel throughout the state
- Pay: $35/hour
- Employment type: W-2 temporary/seasonal, non-exempt
- Project length: Expected through January 2027; extension is possible but not guaranteed
- Hours: Generally scheduled for full-time hours, but actual hours may vary based on patient volume and assignment needs
- Weekly minimum: 20-hour weekly pay guarantee if patient volume is low
- Schedule: Typically 8 AM–5 PM, either Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday depending on assignment
- Travel: Throughout California, with occasional nearby-state travel as needed
- Benefits: Temporary seasonal MAs are not eligible for benefits
What You’ll Do
- Complete scheduled in-home member visits.
- Support Medicare Annual Wellness Visits and other preventive-care activities.
- Take vitals, complete screenings, and perform approved point-of-care testing such as A1Cs and UAs.
- Document visits accurately in the EMR/EHR.
- Follow clinical, safety, HIPAA, and infection-control procedures.
Travel Expectations & Support
- Travel throughout California based on business and patient coverage needs.
- Complete extended and overnight assignments when locations are too far for same-day travel.
- Occasionally travel to nearby states when coverage needs arise.
- Receive schedules typically about two weeks ahead.
- Receive mileage reimbursement at $0.725 per mile between eligible patient visits.
- Receive paid required travel time.
- Have eligible extended travel expenses covered, including transportation, rental car when needed, hotel, and meals.
What You’ll Need
- At least 1 year of Medical Assistant experience.
- Medical Assistant certificate, diploma, credential, or equivalent qualification.
- Hands-on clinical Medical Assistant experience.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, current registration, and active auto insurance.
- Comfort working independently in patients’ homes.
- Ability to meet vaccination and TB/PPD onboarding requirements.
- Ability to travel throughout California, complete overnight assignments, and occasionally travel to nearby states.
Nice to Have
- Medicare Annual Wellness Visit or preventive-care experience.
- Home-visit, mobile-care, field-based, or community health experience.
- Experience with A1Cs, UAs, specimen collection, or similar point-of-care testing.
