About this role
Responsible for the brushless motor and supplier development used in portable power tools in the Vehicle Service and Precision Fastening portfolios within Ingersoll Rand.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead supplier development and design qualification of BLDC motors for NPD and i2V projects.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Participate in Kick-off meetings and outline timelines for motor development
• Help qualify New Motor Platforms (Electrical and Mechanical) with key vendors
• Track Motor Component and Assembly Cost estimates for Mature and New Platforms
• Act as Liaison between Suppliers and Hampton Motors Engineering
• Provide support for Mature and New Products motor failure analysis
• Support Quality Team by participating in teardowns and Failure Analysis review meetings.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (min) or Mechanical Engineering (min) with motor design and manufacturing experience.
- 5+ years of motor design and/or manufacturing experience
- Hands-on and working knowledge of motors (required).
- Working knowledge of Motor Controls for BLDC applications
- Knowledge of common motor assembly processes and equipment
- Knowledge of China-based suppliers for motors, laminations, and magnets
- Experience analyzing product specifications to determine motor design requirements
- Experience with on-site supplier quality audits
- Experience with managing supplier corrective actions and 8D reports
- Experience with PPAP process and design qualification
