About this role

The position

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Principal Scientist to join our Cancer Cell Targeting department and contribute to the discovery and development of innovative therapies for patients with cancer. In this role, you will provide scientific leadership across multidisciplinary research programs, leveraging your expertise in oncology and/or immunology to initiate and lead projects and translate scientific insights into compelling therapeutic concepts. You will drive projects from early discovery toward development, demonstrating scientific excellence, creativity, and strong leadership while collaborating across disciplines and contributing to the department’s broader scientific strategy.

Tasks & responsibilities

- Lead innovative Cancer ell Targeting research projects, taking scientific responsibility for project strategy, experimental direction, and successful execution while advancing novel therapeutic concepts in oncology and immunology.

- Provide scientific leadership to multidisciplinary project teams and drive projects toward clearly defined milestones and decision points in close collaboration with experts across relevant disciplines.

- Design and oversee high-quality experimental strategies to investigate mechanisms of action, establish biological hypotheses, and validate novel therapeutic approaches.

- Identify emerging scientific opportunities, technologies, and biological concepts to strengthen the Cancer Cell Targeting research portfolio and contribute to high-quality scientific publications and presentations.

- Build and foster productive internal and external collaborations and communicate complex scientific findings and project strategies clearly to multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders as well as to the scientific community.

Requirements

- PhD or equivalent degree in cancer biology, immunology, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related life science discipline, with at least three years of postdoctoral experience.

- Demonstrated scientific excellence and deep expertise in oncology, immunology, or related areas relevant to the discovery and development of innovative cancer therapies, supported by a strong publication track record.

- Proven ability to initiate, lead, and successfully advance complex scientific projects, translating scientific hypotheses into actionable research strategies.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and highly collaborative teams, combined with strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire, influence, and align project teams in a matrix research environment.

- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts and project strategies clearly to both specialist and broader audiences.

The minimum gross annual salary for this position is € 90.900 per year (full-time) according to the classification in the collective bargaining agreement for the chemical industry. Depending on professional experience and qualifications, we offer an overpayment.
