Job Overview
WHO WE ARE
Relativity is a leading legal data intelligence company building technology that helps users organize data, discover the truth, and act on it with confidence. Our AI-powered, cloud platform, RelativityOne, transforms massive volumes of complex information into actionable insights for litigation, investigations, regulatory inquiries, data breach responses, and other high-stakes legal work where accuracy and trust are crucial.
The world’s largest law firms, corporations, and government agencies rely on Relativity’s legal AI software to securely surface and manage the most relevant and impactful information in their matters. Beyond our commercial impact, we are committed to expanding access to technology and supporting pro bono legal work.

WHAT WE DO
At Relativity, engineers do more than write code - they build systems that enable users to uncover insights from complex data at scale using cloud-native architecture, AI, and modern tools.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a curious, technically capable AI Software Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you'll build and ship features across our product, with a particular focus on integrating AI capabilities, including LLM-powered functionality and AI-assisted development practices, into scalable, API-first systems.

This is an individual contributor role ideal for someone early in their career who wants hands-on experience building production software while working alongside experienced engineers. You'll contribute code, participate in system design discussions, work with modern data platforms such as MongoDB, and help bring AI-driven features to life while continuing to grow your technical skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Job Description and Requirements

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Design, build, test, and ship software features as part of an Agile/Scrum team under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Contribute to the development of API-first, service-oriented applications while following established architecture and coding standards.
- Build AI-powered features by integrating LLMs and AI APIs into product workflows.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to improve coding efficiency, quality, and testing coverage.
- Write and maintain clean, well-tested, and well-documented code using Java, Python, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript.
- Work with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB to support data modeling, storage, and retrieval requirements.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, providing ideas and constructive feedback.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues across the stack, documenting solutions and escalating when appropriate.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate requirements into working software.
- Continuously learn and apply new tools, frameworks, and AI/ML techniques relevant to the team's roadmap.
- Follow secure coding practices and support observability and monitoring needs for the features you build.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

- Approximately 1-2 years of professional software engineering experience, including internships and co-op experience.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Basic understanding of API design and RESTful services.
- Exposure to or experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or relational databases.
- Familiarity with, or strong interest in, AI tools and LLM-based development, including GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT.
- Understanding of software engineering fundamentals including data structures, version control, testing, and debugging.
- Experience working in, or academic exposure to, Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, growth-oriented mindset.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred

- Hands-on project experience building or integrating AI/LLM-powered features through school, internship, or personal projects.
- Exposure to prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or vector databases.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and a basic understanding of CI/CD practices.
- Interest in event-driven architectures or microservices.
- Exposure to legal tech, eDiscovery, or government and enterprise software environments.
- A portfolio, GitHub profile, or personal projects demonstrating initiative and coding ability.
