About this role
We're looking for someone who loves digging into data until it gives up what it knows: you'll be the analytical core of the team that tests our camera and sensing systems in the physical world, turning large volumes of measurements into the answers module, optics, algorithm and system teams use to make decisions.
Every camera and sensing system we ship is used, every day, by hundreds of millions of people who simply expect it to work. Ensuring our systems are worthy of that expectation is this team's goal. We challenge products through the physical world to prove it, and to feed real-world evidence back into system design — measuring and analysing the performance of multi-disciplinary optical sensing systems. This role is the analytical core of that work. You will define what we measure and why, mine large volumes of measurement data for the effect that actually matters, and take a question that has never been answered to a defensible answer. It is highly collaborative: you will work directly with module, optics, algorithm and system teams, and your conclusions will be the basis of their decisions. You will work alongside our lead system engineer as a peer, with problems allocated between you according to where the issue actually sits. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys digging into data until it gives up what it knows, and who wants to take that on with us.
Minimum Qualifications
MSc in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field, with at least 3 years of hands-on experimental and analytical experience
Strong data analysis and visualization — digest empirical data in a way that answers the question, and explain why that is the right way to look at it
Experience designing experiments to isolate a single effect, with the statistical judgment to assess sample size, repeatability and measurement error
Detailed understanding of optical sensing and imaging systems: image sensors, illumination sources, optical elements, and the tolerances that govern them
Great interpersonal skills — working collaboratively with peers and colleagues across the organization
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in a relevant field (Optics, Physics, EE) or equivalent
Background in image quality assessment and associated metrics
Background in depth sensing, calibration, or autofocus systems
Experience with large-scale data handling, automated analysis pipelines, or applying AI tooling to engineering analysis
Hands-on lab experience with optical setups and electrical equipment
Experience in the consumer electronics industry and with vendors
Experience defining and tracking requirements and specifications from system level through sub-modules and components
