About this Role
WT Byler, a Quanta Services company, is seeking a skilled and reliable Finish Grade Operator to join our team in Houston, TX.
This role supports precise grading and site preparation across infrastructure and industrial construction projects. The ideal candidate has experience operating excavators, dozers, maintainers (motor graders), and mixers, with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
What You'll Do
- Operate excavators, dozers, maintainers, and mixers to support earthwork, grading, site preparation, and soil stabilization.
- Perform finish grading to specified tolerances for roadways, pads, and utility installations.
- Work from grade stakes, construction drawings, GPS systems, and supervisor instructions to meet project specifications.
- Coordinate with surveyors, grade checkers, and foremen to verify elevations, slopes, and grading accuracy.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections, perform basic preventive maintenance, and report mechanical issues.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas while following project safety and environmental requirements.
- Uphold WT Byler’s commitment to safety, integrity, and performance excellence.
What You'll Bring
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a finish grade operator in heavy civil construction or site development.
- Experience operating excavators, dozers, maintainers (motor graders), and mixers.
- Proficiency with GPS-controlled grading systems, such as Trimble or Topcon.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and construction drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to grade to tight tolerances of ±0.1 foot or better.
- Strong understanding of site drainage, slopes, soil stabilization, and compaction requirements.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project locations.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
