About this role

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The employee’s activities will consist of: Independent Inspection, on behalf of his/her organisation and her Principals, of Mineral Oil products, crude oil and inspection of other items if required. These activities consist of:

- Cleanliness inspection of all kinds of containers, shore tanks, vessels, trucks, rail tank cars, etc. meant to contain liquid - and bulk cargoes e.g. Mineral Oil products, crude oil, vegetable oils, grain, etc.
- Quantity determination of the above-mentioned containers, by means of measurements – temperature measurement and calculations.
- The sampling of the above products in the mentioned containers.
- Preparing of the necessary documentation and issuing of certificates.
- To make his / her own report from the information gathered from his / her inspections. The employee will issue correct computerized inspection reports.
- The employee has to care of the samples, provide the samples with the necessary identification, seals and the storage of the samples has to be registered in the appropriate journals.
- To take good care and maintain all the material provided to him/her to carry out the inspection task.
- To communicate with terminals, in order to carry out his/her activity in good order.
- To report without delays to his/her Supervisor in order to speed up the information stream towards the clients.
- To keep several data bases updated.
- To keep him/her self updated with the latest technical changes in his/her inspection area.
- To participate in safety meetings.
- To share his knowledge with his colleagues.
- The employee will establish good relations with the Terminal/Refinery personnel, Vessel’s crewmembers, agencies, etc during the inspections.
- All activities are to be carried out according to the Saybolt standards and/or API chapter no 17.

General activities:

The employee will follow the instruction received from the management with respect to the inspection. The employee will make him / her self familiar with computers and computer programs. The employee will carry out other services, which are necessary or requested by the Management.

1)      Function requirement:

- Minimum Secondary school.
- Good knowledge of mathematics, accounting.
- Good knowledge of administration
- Good knowledge of computers and computer programs.
- Good knowledge of the English
- Minimum 5 years experience as Inspector.

2)      Social qualities:

- Good contact
- Is able to deal businesslike with third parties.
- React calm and correct on incidents.

Psychical qualities:

- Accepts instructions.
- Is stress resistance.
- Must be firm and can withstand bribes.
- Is accurate
- Can handle changing workloads
- Can work with chemicals

4)       Miscellaneous:

- The employee will work on Standby regime, to cover the operational needs in Durban.
- The employee is being able to exercise his / her activity mainly but not exclusively in Durban. Employee will cover & support all operations in South Africa.
- When required employee will attend operations in neighbouring countries where Saybolt is active.

- The hours of work will be those applicable to the relevant work requirements and the employee is expected to adhere thereto.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Grade 12
- Minimum of 5 years in Petroleum Inspection & Testing Industry
