<b>Overview</b><br><p>The Azure Research team is looking for a highly motivated and technical Researcher to lead Microsoft's effort in automating formal verification for real-world production code, inside and outside Azure. Our goal is to build methods and tools to enable developers to define understandable and exhaustive specifications of their applications and to automatically verify the correctness of their implementation - or to assist the agent in producing such an implementation along with its correctness proof.</p><br><br><b>Responsibilities</b><br><ul><li>Lead research and development in agentic verification of real-world code.</li><li>Contribute to both theoretical foundations and help product team implement our approach.</li><li>Publish high-impact research and represent Microsoft at top-tier academic and industry venues.</li><li>Mentor less experienced researchers and interns and contribute to the broader research community.</li></ul><br><br><b>Qualifications</b><br><p><strong>Required Qualifications:</strong></p><ul type="disc"><li>PhD (or equivalent) in computer science on a topic related to formal verification.</li><li>A solid foundation and experience in software and system security.</li><li>A proven publication track record at top conferences in security, programming language and formal methods conferences.</li><li>Significant experience with AI and agentic systems, specifically for software engineering.</li></ul><p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Solid expertise in the Rust programming language and its semantics.</li><li>Solid expertise in using and extending the Lean theorem prover.</li><li>Familiarity with cryptography and cryptographic protocols.</li><li>Familiarity with Microsoft Azure technologies.</li></ul> <br><br><p>Research Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across United Kingdom is £ 74,700.00 - £ 122,600.00 per year.
