About this role
Overview
Overview
Quest Software is seeking an experienced AI Automation Engineer to help pioneer the next generation of software lifecycle automation through agentic AI systems.
This role is focused on applying modern AI agents, autonomous development workflows, and AI orchestration platforms to automate significant portions of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including support operations, defect remediation, security vulnerability management, testing, documentation, release engineering, technical debt reduction, and product sustainment.
The successful candidate will design, build, and manage AI-driven automation systems capable of operating across multiple products and technology stacks. Rather than becoming a deep subject matter expert in a specific product domain, this individual will leverage agentic AI technologies to rapidly understand, maintain, and evolve mature software products while reducing operational cost and increasing engineering efficiency.
This position is particularly focused on products in the later stages of their lifecycle where automation, self-healing processes, autonomous maintenance, and AI-driven operational scale can significantly extend product viability while reducing engineering investment.
The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about creating autonomous engineering systems rather than developing individual product features. They view AI not as a coding assistant, but as an engineering workforce that can be directed, governed, and scaled.
Successful candidates are typically early adopters of agentic development practices who continually experiment with emerging AI tools and are excited by opportunities to automate entire workflows rather than individual tasks. They are comfortable working across multiple codebases and technologies, using AI to rapidly build context and deliver outcomes.
This is a remote position ~ Candidate must be located in Canada
Responsibilities
- Design and implement autonomous AI workflows that automate software development, maintenance, support, and operational activities.
- Build multi-agent systems capable of performing root-cause analysis, bug investigation, code modification, testing, validation, and deployment tasks with minimal human intervention.
- Create AI-driven support automation solutions that analyze customer issues, generate proposed resolutions, implement fixes, and validate outcomes.
- Develop autonomous vulnerability remediation workflows utilizing tools such as Aikido Security and AI-powered code agents.
- Establish frameworks that allow AI systems to perform repetitive engineering activities across multiple products and technology stacks.
- Create reusable agent architectures, prompts, workflows, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and governance models.
- Design centralized AI management and observability platforms that allow engineering teams to monitor, orchestrate, and govern agent activity at scale.
- Measure and continuously improve automation effectiveness, engineering productivity, support efficiency, remediation time, and operational cost reduction.
- Identify opportunities to transition manual engineering processes into AI-managed workflows.
- Drive adoption of AI-native operational models that reduce dependence on product-specific expertise.
Qualifications
- Completion of a computer science undergraduate degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 or more years of professional software development experience, including strong hands-on C# and .NET experience.
- 2-3 years or demonstrated expertise building and operating agentic AI systems in production environments.
- Deep hands-on experience with AI coding agents, autonomous software development workflows, and multi-agent orchestration platforms.
- Experience using modern AI development environments including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, OpenHands, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience designing AI workflows that automate software development, testing, support, DevOps, security remediation, or operational engineering activities.
- Strong understanding of AI evaluation frameworks, guardrails, safety mechanisms, observability, and governance.
- Experience integrating AI agents into CI/CD pipelines and software engineering workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly understand unfamiliar codebases and technology stacks using AI-assisted approaches.
- Strong software engineering background sufficient to review, validate, and improve AI-generated solutions.
- Experience delivering measurable productivity, automation, or cost-reduction outcomes through AI technologies.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Microsoft technology such as Active Directory and Exchange.
- Experience with on-premises products and capabilities using C#/.NET on the Microsoft technical stack.
AI Tool Experience Requirements
- Multi-agent frameworks (CrewAI, AutoGen, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, OpenAI Agents, etc.)
- AI-powered development environments (Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot)
- Security remediation platforms such as Aikido Security
- Automated code review and vulnerability remediation systems
- AI observability and evaluation platforms
- Agent governance and safety controls
- Autonomous CI/CD and release automation
- AI-assisted support and customer issue resolution systems
- Experience developing and maintaining YAML CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar systems.
