THERAPY AREA HEAD – CARDIOMETABOLIC

What you will do
In this vital role, you will lead all medical activities for the Therapeutic Area (TA), inspire the medical team, and drive the development and execution of medical strategies for in-line and pipeline products.
- Develop and execute TA medical strategies, including annual strategic planning, goal setting, launch preparation and lifecycle management, in collaboration with appropriate cross-functional teams.
- Provide strategic oversight of lifecycle management across the portfolio, ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Set the strategy for scientific engagement with a broad range of stakeholders, strengthening external understanding of unmet need and the value of relevant products and assets.
- Ensure medical insights across the TA inform evidence generation, product development, and brand or franchise strategy deliverables.
- Line manage medical advisors, scientific communications colleagues, or MSLs within the therapy area.
- Serve as a senior member of the BU leadership team, shaping TA strategy and priorities.
- Build a positive, motivating workplace culture and promote effective cross-functional working across the TA and BU.
- Own key KOL relationships.
- Act as the country brand ambassador to Global TA teams.
- Strengthen Amgen’s reputation as a science-based, innovative, patient-focused and reliable partner.
Be part of our team
You will work within our UK and Ireland affiliate, leading the General Medicine TA and partnering with Commercial and Value & Access colleagues across the affiliate, while representing the UK at Global TA meetings.

We are all different, but each of us brings unique strengths to serve patients. For this experienced professional role, we are looking for the following qualifications and skills:
- Medical degree with full GMC registration.
- Extensive and progressive experience in Medical Affairs, with a strong track record of strategic medical leadership.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to build, inspire and develop high-performing teams across multiple products and indications.
- Demonstrated experience leading medical strategy across the product lifecycle, including successful launch preparation and execution.
- Strong strategic thinking, advanced analytical capabilities and sound business acumen, with a deep understanding of brand strategy, the reimbursement and access environment, and the evolving UK healthcare landscape.
- Experience in cardiovascular disease, diabetes and/or obesity within the NHS environment would be a strong advantage.
- High learning agility, adaptability and sound judgement, with the ability to navigate complexity, ambiguity and competing priorities within a fast-paced, cross-functional matrix organisation.
- Deep and broad understanding of evidence generation, including the ability to identify evidence gaps and translate scientific and clinical evidence into impactful medical strategies.
- Strong external engagement capabilities, with demonstrated credibility in scientific exchange and partnership with healthcare professionals, experts, healthcare systems and the wider medical community.
- Proven experience as a final ABPI Medical Signatory.
