About this role
Primary Function:
A Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of one or more cutting, grinding, bending,
resizing, sawing, sanding, milling, drilling machines. The Machine Operator will operate both computerized and
manual machines. The operator must be able to balance safety, efficiency, and quality at all times in production.
The ideal candidate will have strong machining and production background with the ability to operate, maintain,
and troubleshoot machinery. This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor with a dashed line to a
Production Lead within an assigned work cell.
Machine Operator roles have five levels that are determined by knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience. These
levels are defined in a separate document and have corresponding pay scales to each level.
Production Machine Operations (80%)
Perform pre- and post-operation machine inspections and document findings.
Follow written work instructions and SOPs to perform routine tasks.
Perform occasional non-routine tasks with careful planning, evaluation, and safety pre-cautions.
Handle door slabs and load and unload machines using a variety of methods both manual and with liftassist
equipment.
Sort and stack doors as needed for staging inbound or outbound in production.
Utilize a variety of pneumatic, mechanical, electric, and hand tools to perform production tasks.
Quality (15%)
Maintain excellent housekeeping and a neat, orderly working environment at all times.
Perform and document regular quality checks with First Article Inspections and other routine SOP-driven
methods.
Ensure quality defects are rejected and removed from production, preventing quality escapes to customers.
Collaborate with leaders and peers to make proactive quality suggestions and concerns that lead to quality
improvements.
Safety, Utilization, Efficiency (5%)
Adhere to all safety protocol at all times.
Ensure machine utilization is maximized.
Ensure efficient production of units through adherence to best practices and general self-discipline.
Perform other production, inventory, or materials-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Abilities:
Use a tape measure, caliper, or other measuring tools.
Use hand and power tools.
Add and subtract fractions or decimals, and convert fractions to decimals.
Proficiency in the English language in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehending.
Visually inspect, read, and verify detailed data, documents, or equipment outputs on a screen or paper.
Perceive and comprehend auditory information or verbal instructions during meetings and phone calls.
Document, compose, and convey clear information and accurate notes in written formats.
Stand for long periods of time in a production environment.
Lift up to 50 pounds independently.
Bend, twist, or stoop to move products or operate equipment.
Preferred:
Experience in manufacturing operating computerized production equipment.
Experience reading and interpreting prints for production.
Experience in wood or metal production environments
