Job Description:
Position Summary and Purpose
The Dosimetrist generates radiation dose distributions and calculations manually or by computer following dose prescriptions specified by the Radiation Oncologist for radiation oncology patients. Planning is done with service to adult (18 - 65 years), geriatric (66 and older), adolescent (12 - 17 years) and pediatric (birth - 11 years) patient populations.
Essential Functions:
1. Assist clinical staff in localization procedures, using CT or conventional radiographic techniques
2. Obtain patient contours and assist in outlining of anatomical structures and the target volume in three dimensions
3. Discuss with the physician the aim of the treatment, including planned tumor dose and maximum acceptable doses to normal tissue
4. Generate isodose distributions via computer and performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose. Presents these to the physician and discusses alternatives
5. Label plans with correct anatomical directions
6. Participate in continuing education in the area of current treatment planning techniques and advances in medical dosimetry
7. Calculate required treatment time or monitor setting for delivery of prescribed dose
8. Assist and monitor preparation of treatment aids and beam modifying devices, including head holders, molds, cradles, compensators, and others as needed
9. Assist in verification of treatment plans through treatment simulation using CT or conventional radiographic techniques
10. Assist the therapist staff in the implementation of treatment plans providing expertise for difficult set-ups
11. Enter treatment parameters in record/verify system accurately and completely.
12. Assist in routine quality control program to include isocenter placement, second check of chart before patient’s first treatment and participation in peer review and chart rounds.
13. Provide treatment-planning instruction to staff, residents, and students as required
14. Assist in record keeping and documentation of treatment parameters for all patients undergoing radiation therapy
15. Enters charges accurately and in a timely manner
16. Plans treatment technique using 2D planning, 3D conformal planning or manually to deliver dose prescribed by Radiation Oncologist
17. Able to develop IMRT(static and vmat) and SBRT plans for appropriate department accelerators
18. Performs other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as requested to meet the needs of the facility as well as internal and external customers.

Job Requirements
(Education, Experience, Licensure and Certification)
Education:
• BS in Biologic or Physical Sciences with training in Dosimetry or graduate of approved Dosimetry school. (required)
• RTT with experience in dosimetry may be considered.
Experience:
• CMD with less experience may be considered. (required)
• Five years of dosimetry job experience (preferred)
Licensure:
• Certification by Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) (required)
Certification:
• Certification by Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) or graduate of approved Dosimetry School and Board eligible (required)
Job Competency:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities critical to this role:
• Computer software relevant to oncology, anatomical structures and 3D CT scan knowledge.
Language Ability:
• Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to communicate with the physicians and physics staff is a must.
Computer Skills:
• Software relevant to Oncology and the various programs utilized by department
• Able to use Aria, Cerner, Eclipse
