About this role

Position Summary: A Designer is primarily responsible for developing specialized equipment designs for the heavy lift and transport industry. This role requires creating complete equipment designs including calculations, fabrication drawings, bills of materials, and comprehensive equipment packages. The Designer will oversee prototype development, testing, and continuous improvement until designs are ready for production.

Responsibilities

- Design innovative equipment and tooling solutions for heavy lift and transport projects across North America.
- Develop complete equipment designs from concept through production readiness.
- Create preliminary CAD models and conceptual layouts to evaluate design alternatives.
- Perform design calculations to validate design assumptions.
- Develop detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and installation drawings.
- Generate and maintain complete Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all equipment designs.
- Create comprehensive Equipment Packages containing drawings, calculations, spec sheets, parts lists, maintenance requirements and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate prototype performance and implement design improvements as necessary.
- Support fabrication personnel by resolving design-related issues during manufacturing.
- Work with suppliers and vendors to identify and source components.
- Apply applicable industry standards and company drafting standards.
- Participate in load testing and field evaluations of newly designed equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment performance issues and implement design improvements

Qualifications

- Minimum of 5 years of qualifying experience in mechanical design, equipment design, product development, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, fabrication methods, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation. Ability to perform design calculations and validate design assumptions.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced experience with Autodesk Inventor or a similar parametric modelling software required.
- Familiarity with hydraulic systems, fluid power components, and electrical control systems is highly preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineers, fabrication personnel, suppliers, technicians, operators, and project managers.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to occasionally visit fabrication facilities, testing sites, and job sites.
- Must successfully complete all pre-employment assessments.
