POSITION DESCRIPTION

St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890, enrolling roughly 950 girls ages 3 through grade 12. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Substitute Teacher for Afterschool Programs is an educational professional who replaces regular teachers for a short period of time. The Substitute Teacher for Afterschool Programs will ensure the lesson plan is followed and the classroom is managed according to the standards of the division and School. The Substitute Teacher for Afterschool Programs should seek to establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and other faculty/staff members; seek to collaborate effectively with other faculty/staff members; and endeavor to support the School’s mission and core values. She/he will help to run classes smoothly and promote an effective and safe learning environment.

Supervisor : Director of After School Programming and Enrichment for Lower School

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Hours of Work: This role is flexible but will require the ability to work periodically during the timeframe of Monday-Friday 2 pm-6 pm; may be able to pair with additional earlier substitute hours; coverage may be requested with limited notice

Pay: The rate of payment for this substitute teaching position is $80.00 for the required 4 hours

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Will depend on the position covered)

- Study and follow the established curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the permanent teacher or Director
- Apply various teaching techniques (including interactive methods) to encourage participation of students
- Prepare educational materials, such as notes, exercises, and additional resources
- Take attendance according to School policy
- Keep track of students’ progress and document information useful to the permanent teacher
- Report any incidents regarding students’ behavior in and out of the classroom to the D
- Maintain a neat, clean, and safe class environment for students
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during Aftercare/Clubhouse hours

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to grasp, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
