Job Title: Construction Project Engineer Job Description
The Construction Project Engineer supports the successful delivery of complex commercial and advanced industrial construction projects by managing documentation, coordinating between office and field teams, and ensuring accuracy in all project records. This role combines technical understanding of construction drawings and methods with strong organizational, communication, and software skills to keep projects running smoothly in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Create, manage, and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other construction documentation using Excel and project management software.
- Support quantity takeoffs, estimating, and materials analysis for assigned scopes of work.
- Coordinate daily activities between office teams and field leadership, assisting the Project Manager and Superintendent with communication and task follow-through.
- Read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, and other construction documents to support project execution.
- Assist with procurement activities, including maintaining document logs, updates, and reporting to support consistent project flow.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness in all project documentation, prioritizing correctness over speed.
- Maintain proactive communication with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to keep all stakeholders aligned.
- Assist with project setup, including jobsite logistics planning and preparation activities.
- Support project closeout by organizing and completing required closeout documentation.
- Use Microsoft Office and construction software tools to prepare reports, track progress, and maintain project records.
Essential Skills
- Ability to read construction drawings and understand construction materials and methods.
- Experience working in construction environments, preferably commercial construction or advanced industrial projects.
- Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, and basic construction workflows.
- Strong proficiency with Excel and construction project management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
- Ability to coordinate project activities and communicate effectively with field leadership and office teams.
- High level of organization with strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced project environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Solid work ethic, reliability, and willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with construction management, project management, or project coordination responsibilities.
- Background with a general contractor or architectural subcontractor is highly beneficial.
- Exposure to large projects, with advanced industrial project experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and other common productivity tools.
- Experience supporting estimation activities, including quantity takeoffs and materials analysis.
- Strong ability to learn new systems, processes, and technologies quickly.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to focus on accuracy in documentation.
- Desire to grow professionally with mentorship and advancement opportunities in a medium-sized firm.
- Interest in specializing within a subcontractor environment and developing niche expertise.
Work Environment
This role is primarily onsite at a large technology manufacturing campus, with occasional meetings at an office in Tempe as needed. The environment offers exposure to advanced industrial and commercial construction projects, with close collaboration between office staff and field leadership. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chandler, AZ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be
