Position Title: Eastside Branch Assistant
Supervisor’s Title: Branch Services Manager FLSA Status: Part-Time, Hourly
Job Classification & Pay Range: Library Assistant I, $16.00 to $25.50 per hour, beginning at or near the bottom of the range
Purpose
To provide welcoming customer service to library patrons at the Eastside branch by assisting with digital resources and computers, locating and checking out books and other library materials, operating printers and copiers, sending faxes, registering patrons for library programs and room booking, placing holds and interlibrary loan requests, answering questions about library services and resources, referring patrons to community resources, and performing other customer service tasks as needed.
This position will also support on- and off-site BCPL programs and the BCPL Express by setting up and breaking down events, facilitating small programs with community members, traveling throughout the community on the BCPL Express, distributing free books, and providing other resources as needed.

• Check in and check out library materials for patrons
• Answer phone calls and transfer them to the appropriate departments
• Shelve materials and perform shelf reading as needed
• Use the library’s online catalog to help patrons locate items
• Assist patrons with public computers and basic technology questions
• Help patrons with printing, copying, scanning, and faxing
• Place holds and submit interlibrary loan requests for patrons
• Perform internet searches to answer patrons’ questions
• Maintain a welcoming, safe, and orderly atmosphere at the Eastside Branch
• Answer questions about library services and programs or refer patrons to appropriate staff members
• Refer patrons to community organizations and resources for social service needs when necessary
• Assist with opening and closing procedures as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous library experience or customer service experience in combination with knowledge of libraries preferred

Physical Demands
The employee frequently is required to:
- Push and pull carts of library materials
- Lift boxes of library materials weighing approximately 30 pounds
- Walk and stand for extended periods of time, up to two hours at a time
- Use hands and fingers to operate computers and phones
- Grab repeatedly with hands to move items from one location to another
- Communicate verbally
