Position Overview:

The Senior Computer Operator ensures the stability of mainframe operations by resolving complex job issues, improving shift procedures, and mentoring junior operators. This role contributes to operational reliability through proactive monitoring and RCA.

Essential Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

* (30%) Advanced Job Monitoring & Response: Monitor and troubleshoot high-volume job streams and system messages with minimal supervision.

* (20 %) Incident Handling & RCA: Investigate recurring job failures and assist in documenting root cause analysis.

* (15%) Procedure Optimization: Recommend updates to runbooks, checklist, and operational SOPs.

* (15 %) Mentoring & Shift Support: Assist with onboarding and training junior staff; serve as a go-to resource during shift.

* (10 %) Change & Maintenance Coordination: Support infrastructure maintenance windows and validate job restarts post activity.

* (10 %) Reporting & Communication: Provide shift summaries and communicate operational risks to operations management.

Required Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

* High school diploma or equivalent

* 5+ years of experience in computer operations or data center support.

* Experience in a 24x7 or batch-driven mainframe operations environment.

Preferred Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

* Associates degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.

* 5+ years of relevant experience

* Proficient with job scheduling tools, TSO/ISPF, and automation consoles.

Job Environment & Physical Requirements:

* This position typically operates in a professional office environment or hybrid/ remote setup.

* Ability to remain in a stationary position (seated or standing) for extended periods of time while working on a computer.

* Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via collaboration tools
