About this role
SLB is seeking an experienced Process Simulation Engineer to join our Symmetry Process Solution team in Calgary . In this role, you will develop and apply steady-state and dynamic simulation models using the Symmetry Process Software Platform to analyze process performance and support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. You will deliver solutions across oil and gas, refining, chemicals, and alternative energy, supporting applications such as feasibility studies, facility analysis, dynamic studies, process optimization, debottlenecking, and digital twin solutions.
We are looking for someone with strong process engineering and simulation expertise who can translate complex operational challenges into accurate models and practical technical solutions. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, works effectively with customers and multidisciplinary teams, and collaborates with process, operations, project engineering, digital technology, and other SLB teams across geographies to help improve process and asset performance.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop, calibrate, validate, and maintain steady-state and dynamic process simulation models using Symmetry Process Simulator, ensuring models accurately reflect plant operating conditions.
- Perform simulations and process studies for process design, debottlenecking, optimization, and troubleshooting, including heat and material balances, equipment performance evaluation, hydraulic analysis, and scenario testing.
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, production capacity, process stability, and overall operational performance.
- Support digital twin, operator training simulator, and real-time optimization initiatives.
- Prepare technical reports, model documentation, calculation notes, and recommendations for stakeholders.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including flow assurance, production, asset health and reliability, engineering, and development, and provide feedback to product portfolio and engineering teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience in a technical role as a Chemical, Process, or Production Facilities Engineer within the oil and gas, midstream, or processing industries.
- Experience using process simulation software such as Symmetry, Aspen HYSYS, UniSim Design, Aspen Plus, ProMax, or equivalent tools.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, process equipment, and the ability to interpret PFDs, P&IDs, operating data, equipment datasheets, and process design documentation.
- Experience with dynamic simulation, control system modeling, process optimization, energy efficiency studies, advanced process control, or operator training simulators.
- Familiarity with plant historian data, data reconciliation, and model calibration workflows.
- Experience supporting digital transformation initiatives, including digital twins, real-time monitoring, or optimization applications.
- Programming or scripting experience using Python, VBA, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work and reside in Canada without company sponsorship.
