The Head of Financial Engineering is responsible for establishing and leading the Financial Engineering function across Global Asset Management.
This leader will partner with investment, risk, client, operations and technology stakeholders to identify, prioritize, design and deliver advanced analytical tools, data solutions and decision-support capabilities that enhance investment outcomes, business effectiveness and client value.
The role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, ensuring that analytics and technology investments are aligned to business priorities and delivered through scalable, sustainable solutions.
The incumbent will lead a team of quantitative, analytics and engineering professionals while acting as a senior advisor to business leaders on data, analytics, investment technology and innovation opportunities.

Core Accountabilities
Financial Engineering Strategy
- Define the vision, operating model and roadmap for Financial Engineering across GAM.
- Develop a multi-year strategy for analytics, investment tooling and decision-support capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to leverage data, quantitative methods, automation and emerging technologies to solve investment and business challenges.
- Evaluate external trends and industry practices to identify competitive advantages.
Business Partnership
- Serve as a strategic advisor to senior business leaders.
- Partner with Portfolio Managers, Research teams, Product leaders, Distribution leaders and operational partners to understand strategic priorities.
- Translate business opportunities into technology, data and analytics solutions.
- Establish governance frameworks for intake, prioritization and delivery.
Analytics and Solution Development
- Lead the design and delivery of portfolio analytics, risk analytics, attribution, performance measurement and decision-support tools.
- Oversee development of advanced analytical frameworks and data products.
- Guide evaluation and implementation of quantitative methodologies and emerging technologies.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable and aligned to enterprise architecture standards.
Portfolio Leadership
- Lead a portfolio of strategic initiatives from concept through implementation.
- Establish delivery roadmaps and execution plans.
- Balance competing priorities across stakeholder groups.
- Manage dependencies across business, data and technology teams.
- Ensure realization of expected business outcomes.
People Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing Financial Engineering team.
- Recruit, develop and retain quantitative, engineering and analytics talent.
- Provide technical direction and coaching.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Establish standards, practices and methodologies for solution development.
Enterprise Influence
- Develop trusted relationships with executives across GAM and enterprise partners.
- Lead discussions involving complex technical and business concepts.
- Influence investment and technology strategies through data-driven recommendations.
- Represent GAM within enterprise analytics, technology and innovation forums.
Ideal Experience Profile
Experience
- 12-15+ years of progressive experience within Asset Management, Wealth Management, Capital Markets or Financial Services.
- Experience leading analytics, quantitative, investment technology or financial engineering functions.
- Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale data, analytics or technology capabilities.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Experience leading large transformation programs and strategic initiatives.
- Extensive stakeholder management experience with executive leadership teams.

Salary :
$120,000.00 - $215,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
