Job Description
This part-time position works under the direction of DWED ABE program leadership and collaborates with instructional, advising, registration, workforce, and community partner teams to support adult learners as they navigate educational and workforce opportunities. The Part-Time Career Coach provides student-facing support related to program navigation, career and educational pathway information, referrals, enrollment and transition support, student follow-up, retention, and engagement. The position assists students participating in High School Equivalency (HSE), English Language Acquisition (ELA), Integrated Education and Training (IET), bridge programs, short-term workforce training, industry certification, Ability to Benefit (ATB), and other college or workforce pathways. The Career Coach may support students individually or in groups and assist with orientations, workshops, registration/intake activities, outreach, student tracking, and follow-up.
This position is responsible for:
- Providing students with information about ABE, DWED, CSN, workforce training, career pathway, and postsecondary opportunities.
- Assisting students with identifying next steps within HSE, ELA, IET, bridge, short-term training, industry certification, ATB, and college pathways.
- Assisting students with enrollment navigation, onboarding, orientation, registration, intake, and transition activities.
- Connecting and referring students to appropriate CSN departments, workforce agencies, training programs, community organizations, and other support services.
- Conducting follow-up with current, inactive, transitioning, and exiting students to support persistence, re-engagement, and successful transitions.
- Assisting students with career readiness activities such as resumes, interviewing, digital literacy, job-search resources, employability skills, and workplace readiness.
- Facilitating or assisting with orientations, pathway presentations, career-readiness workshops, informational sessions, and student engagement activities.
- Maintaining accurate student notes, referrals, follow-up information, and participation or transition information in applicable data systems.
- Assisting with tracking student participation, persistence, progression, transitions, employment outcomes, and other required follow-up activities.
- Assisting with collecting and reviewing student documentation related to program participation, referrals, transitions, and reporting requirements.
- Supporting retention and re-engagement initiatives designed to improve student attendance, persistence, participation, and successful transition.
- Participating in recruitment, outreach, and community engagement activities to increase awareness of Adult Education and DWED opportunities.
- Collaborating with instructors, advisors, registration staff, workforce teams, and community partners to help students access appropriate services.
- Supporting testing, registration, intake, onboarding, and other student-service activities as needed.
- Assisting with student-facing materials and communications related to career pathways, workforce opportunities, registration, and program services.
- Attending staff meetings, professional development activities, and program or community meetings as needed.
- Performing other related duties as assigned to support the needs of Adult Basic Education, DWED, and the College.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience providing customer service, student support, community services, workforce services, education support, or related services.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, community partners, and members of the public.
- Ability to use computers, Microsoft Office applications, and electronic information or student-tracking systems.
- Ability to organize work, maintain accurate records, follow established procedures, and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse adult learners and provide professional, student-centered customer service.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include mornings, evenings, weekends, or off-site assignments based on program needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of experience in adult education, higher education, workforce development, customer service, student services, community services, or a related setting.
- Experience working with adult learners, underserved populations, or multilingual and multicultural communities.
- Experience assisting individuals with registration, intake, referrals, educational services, workforce training, or career-readiness activities.
- Experience conducting student follow-up, outreach, orientations, workshops, or informational sessions.
- Experience using student information, case management, customer relationship management, or data-tracking systems.
- Knowledge of CSN, DWED, Adult Education, workforce training, career pathways, or community workforce resources.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, listening, and written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to learn program requirements and explain processes, services, and next steps clearly and accurately.
- Ability to work collaboratively while also independently prioritizing assigned responsibilities.
Salary Information
$22.00 Hourly
Please Note: This position may require occasional travel to off-site locations and flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, or split shifts based on program needs.
