Lead and develop a team of behavioral health professionals while helping expand access to high-quality mental health care across Western North Carolina.

As Behavioral Health Supervisor, walk-in team, you will provide clinical and administrative leadership to a team of therapists, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth, and evidence-based practice. This unique role combines direct patient care with supervision, mentorship, workforce development, quality improvement, and operational leadership. Working closely with the Behavioral Health Manager, physicians, residency leadership, and interdisciplinary partners, you will help shape the future of integrated behavioral health services while maintaining an active clinical presence and supporting MAHEC's mission of patient care, education, and community health.

In addition to service-line supervision responsibilities, this role provides outpatient behavioral health services through a combination of scheduled therapy appointments and same-day walk-in behavioral health support. To support patient access, this position is expected to include limited evening coverage, anticipated to be no later than 7:00 PM one day per week, subject to final operational approval. Our anticipated start date for this hire will be late January - Early February 2027.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Behavioral Health Supervisor is a licensed clinician who provides administrative and clinical support as well as operational oversight to a team of Behavioral Health Therapists. This position is responsible for fostering clinical excellence, ensuring workflow efficiency, and maintaining high standards of patient care across outpatient and integrated care settings. The Supervisor also manages a reduced caseload, supporting team members through case consultation, productivity monitoring, onboarding, and continuous professional development. This role plays a vital part in sustaining a culture of collaboration, accountability, and whole-person care. The Supervisor will be responsible for a team of approximately 10-15 therapists across multiple locations and teams, including Outpatient Behavioral Health providers, integrated Behavioral Health providers, Collaborative Care Managers, NC Pal Consultant, and potential future Behavioral Health staff.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Administrative (0.5 FTE):

This leadership position uses a three-tiered framework—Development, Quality Services, and Sustainability—to guide clinical excellence, cross-departmental collaboration, and long-term workforce strength.

Development: Cultivating Excellence and Professional Growth :

- Supporting the onboarding of new Behavioral Health Therapists, ensuring alignment with MAHEC’s policies, workflows, and clinical standards.
- Serve as a strategic partner to clinical departments, supporting integration and relationship-building between behavioral health staff and host departments.
- Foster a culture of professional development and evidence-based practice through ongoing supervision, coaching, and mentorship.
- Lead regular team meetings and meet regularly with direct reports 1:1 to review workflow, address staff concerns, and discuss opportunities for growth.
- Serve as a resource for navigating internal systems, community resources, and interdisciplinary collaboration

Quality Services: Supervision, Compliance, and Patient Outcomes :

- Track individual and team productivity, documentation timeliness, and service delivery benchmarks; offer guidance and accountability support.
- Monitor clinical quality, fidelity to treatment models, and patient outcomes; partner with the BH Manager to implement quality improvement strategies.
- Provide real-time consultation and crisis support to team members managing urgent or complex clinical situations.
- Maintain a reduced caseload, modeling clinical excellence and maintaining active familiarity with MAHEC’s clinical systems.

Sustainability: Workflow, Integration, and Operational Stability :

- Coordinate therapist schedules to ensure coverage, balanced caseloads, and responsiveness to patient needs.
- Communicate regularly with the Behavioral Health Manager and other department leadership to surface barriers, identify staffing needs, and recommend solutions that promote long-term sustainability.
- Support workforce stability through relationship-building, clear communication, and recognition of team achievements.
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies, ethical standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in recruitment and hiring processes, including interview participation and team onboarding as needed.

Clinical Responsibilities (0.5 FTE) :

- Provide individual, family, and group therapy to clients using clinical models and modalities approved by the agency and the service definition for children and adolescents who are being referred to mental health and substance abuse services.
- Conduct Comprehensive Clinical Assessments, develop treatment plans based on evidence-informed practices, incorporate internal and external collateral information (i.e. CCAs, Psychological Testing, Medical Evaluations, etc.) into case conceptualization and treatment planning, complete prior authorizations, and maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic health record.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to urgent clinical needs.

HealthCare Knowledge : Having the drive to keep yourself abreast and up to date on the new breakthroughs in your area of expertise and communicating them to the rest of the team, as appropriate. This also includes keeping up with your licensure and yearly training requirements within your area expertise along with MAHEC’s organizational training. Finally, the ability to apply the depth of knowledge maintained and gained through this process in real life scenarios as appropriate.

SPECIFIED SKILLS :

COMPUTER

- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

- Spanish speaking skills preferred, not required, and eligible for compensation add on

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Direct supervision of Behavioral Health providers
- Clinical supervision of LCSW-A or LCMHC-A, as appropriately licensed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Master’s Degree or PhD in one of the Behavioral Health/Social Services sciences
- Licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) in North Carolina.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- At least two years of supervisory/management experience in human services
- At least two years of clinical experience in crisis assessment and treatment with multi-system families.
- Meet North Carolina criteria for Clinical Supervision.

REQUIRED LICENSES :

- Licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of North Carolina.

SCHEDULE:

Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

- $74,000 - $92,000 full-time, exempt Opportunity for additional compensation based on eligible experience, higher education, dual-credentials (LCAS preferred), and bilingual Spanish-English skills
